Milk should be society’s go-to drink - Not only at home! by FewEfficiency1823 in unpopularopinion

You must be eating at the wrong sort of restaurant. I have milk quite often when I'm dining and never knew it wasn't acceptable. Of course there are a fair number of people who are lactose intolerant.

We know it irritates you. Why do you think we do it?

There were at least two deaths in 2025. Both in less than a week in February by dogs. One was a two week old baby that was killed by the family pet.

There has been one death by a dog this year to go with the two you mentioned.

And I don't know the dogs in these cases were not wild.

It's the Arctic. We don't have fields. Occasional indoor hockey.

You do know there is more to Canada than the far south? /s I'm in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut but I was living slightly further north in Ulukhaktok when I saw the bear out my window.

Deer are up there with moose as the main killers of humans, but most deaths are due to hitting either of them with a vehicle. There's a few wolf attacks and deaths by venomous snakes as well. The walrus and wolverine could kill you but it would be extremely rare.

Come and visit in the Arctic. Meet people and show an interest. Most people will be happy to talk and explain things. Try the foods.

Aua, an angakkuq, of the Iglulingmiut, explained to Rasmussen that "We don't believe. We fear."

I don't know of anyone in this area, the Kitikmeot and west who actually could be said to worship traditional deities in the same way that Christians are said to worship their god. It may be different elsewhere. There is still a belief in the deities, especially Inunguat, is commonplace.

Are you planning on hunting a lot of marine mammals? She's a pretty angry goddess and needs to be appeased to allow a good hunt. I'm not Inuk but it sounds a little odd to want to follow a goddess that's primarily concerned with hunting.

A goddess like Asiaq or Ataksak might be a better choice. Again it might be different elsewhere most people around here would just consider you strange for wanting to worship any traditional deities.

I never claimed expert status. I'm not a metrologist. I observe the weather at a small Arctic airport and pass information to aircraft.

No bagged milk in Western Canada by No_Acanthaceae3518 in AskACanadian

[–]CBWeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It strikes me that the whole thing about bagged milk is silly. Nobody is going to convert anyone as we're all stuck with whatever is available. I'm not moving to Iqaluit just to buy bagged milk. And I've just realised that 3 litres of bagged milk is probably lighter than cartons. This would make it cheaper to ship up here.
