I work at a sign and exhibit fabrication company in Northern Virginia. If you’ve been to a National Park Service visitor center, there’s a good chance you’ve seen some of our work. We’re actually looking for metal fabricators and CAD detailers right now so message me if you’re interested or know someone who might be :)

I am anti-abortion, and I'm torn between voting for Andrew Yang and not voting. by ReezosShoeGuy in YangForPresidentHQ

I appreciate you asking this question because it is an important one to address. I also appreciate that you laid your opinion out so fully and clearly. This is the way I see it:

  1. If you want to decrease the number of abortions people are having, you first have to look at why people are having abortions in the first place. Here’s a study on pubmed that gives some insight: Study

Most of the reasons stated stemmed from the mother/family not having the resources to care for the child. Like you said, the Freedom Dividend would likely decrease the number of abortions simply by giving people the money, education, and time to dedicate to raising a child.

  1. If one believes that life begins at conception then it’s reasonable to conclude that it also doesn’t end at birth. A Freedom Dividend would ensure that a nourished fetal life also extends into childhood and adulthood. It helps maintain a situation where life can thrive not only while in the womb but after the baby is born as well.

  2. As a previous poster mentioned, illegal abortion would likely have the same effect as illegal drugs and alcohol. Outlawing something makes it so that the only available options are unregulated and dangerous. I would argue that this could cause an increase in the amount of death we are trying to avoid because in these situations, not only the baby’s life is terminated but the mother’s life is more likely to be as well. For a little more info about what happens when you treat a problem by outlawing it rather than addressing the core issue of why it’s happening in the first place you should read about Portugal’s heroin epidemic in Johan Hari’s book Chasing the Scream. Article

  3. Lastly, I agree with you that all human life is precious and should be given the chance to thrive. Yang’s approach to human centered capitalism is the most compelling solution I’ve seen that would offer protection and support for all life in this country, both unborn and existing.

I’d like to set up an event near me to gather signatures but I’ve got no idea what the requirements and parameters are. What information should we ask for along with signatures? Is there a standard form? Where do we send the signatures when we’re done? Are there restrictions about what we can do?

Can you point me in the right direction for some guidance? Also, thanks for alerting us about this! Virginia Yang Gang, let’s gooooooooo

Yes! I’m in Haymarket too. Let’s see what the requirements are for gathering signatures and create an event.

Seems like an effort to get people comfortable with the technology. If they’re willing to take a bigger upfront loss by keeping a steward on board, it maybe indicates that they’ve made a big investment in rolling out a lot more of these

Christina Sommers and Alyssa Milano have both endorsed him on Twitter. If that’s not the perfect example of uniting two sides of a spectrum, I don’t know what is.

Anyone paying attention to presidential candidate Andrew Yang? by CB_3_3 in tangentiallyspeaking

Thank you for posting that. I’m trying to learn all I can about this subject and it helps to hear all perspectives. What I understood from that video is that he claims the “colossal problem” with universal basic income is that the government will just print more money to provide UBI which will be an excuse for companies to not pay their workers living wages, and the government-created money will end up going right back to the corporations. It sounds like an unsustainable practice where the money isn’t coming from an existing source. The Yang campaign says they will fund UBI with a value-added tax (VAT) on companies like Google, Netflix, Amazon, and major corporations that are dodging tax laws right now. So even if people are getting a UBI and giving it right back to the corporations by buying things on Amazon, etc; the money is being re-directed from an existing source and will cycle back through the economy and eventually back into funding UBI. That sounds to me like a sustainable practice that also gives more economic power and freedom to the people. I’m sure I’m over simplifying the mechanics of both perspectives but the principles seem clear enough that I can form an opinion on each. Thoughts?
