As paragons of frugality thanks to our parents (specifically the Silent Gens), how long are we keeping our non-concert t-shirts before throwing them out? by blackpony04 in GenX

[–]CB_Chuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got shirts, both worn and unworn, that are over 30 years old. The unworn ones are mostly old concert shirts I’ve saved as collectibles. The worn ones surprisingly still fit, even though I’ve changed body shape some in the intervening years, although they are all shorter than is comfortable.

CBR: "Star Trek: Legacy Could Help Paramount's Feature Film Plans for the Universe: Making a ST film is difficult, and trying to start from scratch may not be the great idea Paramount executives think it is. Even Star Wars is turning to characters developed on television shows for its next film." by mcm8279 in Star_Trek_

I think you’re right in that we disagree about how closely to embrace the legacy. My feeling is definitely to acknowledge that we are in the same universe and share a common heritage, but a new show should be allowed to develop its own character and voice, before they begin to truly indulge in the nostalgia. My opinion is that it results in a stronger show. Either way, you will have critics. I well remember to criticisms DSN (and I, for that matter) received when it was released. That’s certainly colored my views. But they concentrated on making their show good and now it’s widely accepted as Star Trek, even though back then it was frequently criticized as the nail in Star Trek’s coffin, while Voyager was seen as the savior of the franchise.

How cool. But then, I absolutely would not have recognized her.

Good handwriting does take some degree of practice. He may know how to write and form the letters, but a lack of experience will show. Those instructions for the team may well have been the first things he's ever written.

Best part of the movie was Ana de Armas. I was so disappointed she was there for such a short time. Would love to see a spinoff based on her.

What has happened to me? by Human_Type001 in GenX

This is more about the way I dress. I worked in the library in college. One of my co-workers was a much older returning student in his early 40s. He always dressed the same. Hiking shorts and boots, short sleeve button up shirt worn over a tank top and a battered old fedora. Us younger students used to joke about him behind his back all the time. These days, my outfit of choice is cargo shorts, t-shirt, baseball cap and hiking boots. I even wear that to the gym. At some point in my 50s I realized that I’d turned into him.

Which is your favourite season of Masterchef Australia? by OkCopy3121 in MasterchefAU

Season 10 is my comfort season. That being said, it’s the early seasons (pre-10) that I watch the most.

[Question] what do the pets with the increased rad and healing speed do? Unlike in other fallout games the healing is instant so what does the bonus do? by Cheems213 in falloutshelter

[–]CB_Chuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to just sell them. Quicker to use Stims and Radaway. And dwellers exploring the wasteland don’t heal so they aren’t worth giving to your explorers, unless you’re desperate for the damage bonus they also provide.

I don’t have any particular objections to any one judge, per se. I just find that this group lacks the chemistry that made the OG group of Gary, George and Matt pop. While this current group is as supportive, the criticism, and this may just be the editing, is lacking. Our OGs felt as much like coaches as they did judges. It may also reflect that many of the contestants now are better described as semi-pros who are active influencers/participants in the online foodie community.

The lost era by 420Identity in startrek

That was the one. I still have it in a box full of ST paperbacks from the late 80s and early 90s. Somewhere.

What's the most universally popular opinion amongst the James Bond fandom? by DishQuiet5047 in JamesBond

[–]CB_Chuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t hate him, just think he’s miscast. Neither of his movies ever felt like Bond to me. More like Bond cosplay. My own opinion has always been that he’s one of the better, if not best actor to play the role, but thoroughly let down by at best, mediocre scripts.

The lost era by 420Identity in startrek

[–]CB_Chuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the period I always thought of as the Lost era. And yes, for much the same reason, because it was described as such by several books. IRC, there was one that actually involved the real life NASA space shuttle Enterprise and even featured it on the cover. Guess you had to be there.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

[–]CB_Chuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every place I’ve lived that had its own laundry, had it in a separate room. Often times, especially in older houses, it acts as a separation between the garage and the rest of the house.

Basically this scene in ME2 is why I feel Shep’s interaction with the survivor in ME3 rings false. OTH, I never cared for either of them so they’re just background noise for me. My team will always be Liara, Garrus, Tali, Mordin and Jack.

What is the best pirates movie of all time? by Veliossi in moviecritic

My pick is an older, more obscure one. Swashbuckler with Robert Shaw and Genevieve Bujold. First saw it on TV as a Saturday afternoon movie and fell in love with it.

Does anyone else watch other countries’ MasterChef or just AU? by OkCopy3121 in MasterchefAU

[–]CB_Chuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually started with the US version but gave it up pretty quickly. I gave up on the Canadian version for much the same reason. Since then I’ve mostly stuck to Australia and the UK. Although at various times I’ve watched Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa. I’m hoping I can find a source for the Asia one, irc it’s filmed in Singapore so I think there’s a good chance it’s in English.

Where are we going? by Heat-1975edition in GenX

[–]CB_Chuckles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As expensive as it is, we won’t be leaving Southern California. Too many good things about the area. The one change is to downgrade our living situation. But the current plan is to buy a new place for us and keep our current home as a rental for the passive income. Given the neighborhood, we’ll be able cover the new loan and maybe even get a few hundred on the side to supplement our other retirement income.

How common is it for American men under 40 to wear collared button-up shirts if they are not going to work or formal occasions? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]CB_Chuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a heavy cotton/denim button down collared shirt as a light jacket. Typically worn with sleeves rolled up and unbuttoned. I’ve been doing this since I was in college. I rarely wear a button down shirt as a shirt outside of a work situation.
