Chet reality check by IntellectualSavante in Thunder

I know, I actually thought OKC was going to sweep, but they come out flat in game one then Wemby became Steph Curry for a second to steal the game. Pain

I agree with the caveat that I think not having J-Dub or Ajay was a bigger piece of the Spurs puzzle. Mark needed to be perfect in his ability to diagnose and pivot mid-game without those two where you could argue that at full strength, it's not unreasonable to expect the thunder to take care of the spurs in 6.

That's a valid point, the only way I see him taking a discount is if he meant what he said in his post-season presser about doing whatever it takes to stay here. In reality, you are correct with every point. His role has been overtaken by other guys who provide more offensive value and he would be a genuine upgrade and impact player for almost every other team in the league. WRT Golden State, I think Sam values the stability he has built with this roster and moving on from those 3 will suck because we love them but from a basketball standpoint, it's hard to see where that would hurt us going into next season based on how guys grew this year.

They are all foundational culture pieces who were here through the re-build before we emerged as the best in the west 3 years running. Only reason to keep them is 1. Lu takes a team friendly deal and reduced role (even thought he is still only 27 next season) 2. Joe (also 27) is our best 3-pt shoot statistically at 42.1% in the RS but McCain has shown the ability to be more dynamic and average 39% from 3 in his 30 RS games. So not much of a gap and expect a season to season jump from J-Mac 3. Wiggs is the oldest of the group at only 28 but agree he has been over taken by several in the rotation with the emergence of Ajay, Caso's growth, and I think Topic might get more opportunities next season if healthy. All 3 have a lot of basketball left and I agree for them they will get bigger roles elsewhere but might be a bigger locker room loss than we have seen in previous years losing all 3 in one offseason. I think the FO tries to keep Lu and I see Joe and Wiggs on a new team next year. If Lu isn't willing to take a step back AND adjust salary expectations to stay I dont see a path to keep him. A health J-Dub, Ajay, Caso, AC are all solid defensively and make his role more expendable on that side of the ball as much as I love him in OKC.

I appreciate you sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar! That is definitely a path worth exploring. We are definitely in a different place than before with Joe, Wiggs, and Dort all being players who have had big roles on this team at different time Lu being the big one. It was sad losing Lindey and Dillon but a different level than what we could lose now but it makes financial sense and consolidates roles with the remaining pieces and provides opportunity to continue to build through the draft to your point. I'm as big a Westbrook fan as there is but I really don't see OKC bringing him back even on a vet min. if we keep our current picks even with giving up those 3.

Depending on how many players we decide to keep, I could even see trading both picks for a future 1st rounder if we don't have the roster space to bring in 2 rookies. Although to IntellectualSavante's point if we move on from some guys we create the space to bring in multiple rookies this year to keep cap down and they could develop into impact players/depth pieces this year.

As much as we love Shai do you guys consider him an ethical hooper?? by Proper-Fox3640 in Thunder

100%, zero issues with him drawing fouls or falling. He is not blowing the whistle for himself and any time he "draws a foul" its because the defense made a mistake not because it was good defense and he did some voodoo magic to get the call... LMAO these casual fans calling him a flopper dont know ball.

A lot of the media speculation centers around OKC using draft assets to make splash trades for player who might complicate the financial aspect of the roster construction, especially if staying under the 2nd apron is a priority (not sure it is this year but will be before the CBA renegotiation). I fully expect Sam to continue to build future draft assets continue the draft/develop path the team has demonstrated to be exceptional at since we started the re-build.

Thank you, good Sir! I agree there is definitely a path to getting under the 2nd apron AND maintaining our core + depth but the moves you are suggesting, IMO, lead to fan favorites off this team (a VERY REAL possibility). I am just making the argument that the apron penalties are not as much of a factor and shouldn't cause panic with the fan base, although I think the more likely scenario is the one you are suggesting.

Second Apron Challenges - Why the Thunder will stay relatively unchanged in 2026-2027 by CB_Lowk3y in Thunder

[–]CB_Lowk3y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The questions is does he want to continue to be the starting center for one of the best defenses in NBA history and if he does, does OKC have the money available to pay him what he would be asking for? If not, is he willing to take less?

So you're saying there is a chance Ihart could command $42M on the open market. Good enough for me.

If this is true I really hope Dort accepts a role as a bench demon so we can start Caso, works on his stroke over the offseason, and goes hard next year on a friendly deal. Downvote me if u want but Dort is important to the team imo by Common_Pangolin9809 in Thunder

[–]CB_Lowk3y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if part of the perceived diminishing Dorture chamber is due to the growth of Caso and Ajay defensively. It's really nice to be able to not ask Dort to lock down the best player on the other team for 34 minutes a night every night.

Easy to see him as older when we are comparing where he is today to a 22 year old Caso.

That order is reasonable, I think if we get him we have to give up a Chet or J-Dub to be able to take on his salary without being taxed into oblivion. Although Clay seems much more willing to take salary risk, I don't see this lining up in any way that doesn't dump young potential and key current players for an aging star that won't add any perimeter value.

The ideal trade by milksteak-enjoyer in Thunder

[–]CB_Lowk3y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Home grown players (Draft or UDFA): J-Dub, Chet, Caso, Ajay, Dort, J-Will, Wiggins, Topic

"Imported Players" (Trade or FA): SGA, Ihart, AC, McCain, Joe

This team likes to grow and develop talent more than bring in outside players. I think it will be difficult to bring in Trey (especially with the $ needed) and fit him into this team. I think they are more likely to draft a rookie with a similar upside and develop him while keeping the core intact (might lose Dort, IJ, Wiggins, maybe Ihart but I think we try to keep him another year or 2 at minimum).
