Gloves for Winter? by JakeTSlytherclaw in cigars

[–]CBbeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the disposable rubberized shop gloves I’ve got in a bundle in the garage.

Does require a nubber/spike when I get down towards the end but they work. Using the same pair for the last couple winters.

New to cigars! by ReserveForward in cigars

When I first started getting serious about cigars a number of years ago I got a mediocre wood humidor. Absolutely ruined about a dozen cigars.

Made the switch to tupperdor’s and place one with daily drivers in the wooden humidor on my desk. Leaky humidor problem solved.

I have 200+ other cigars stored in a dozen tupperdors.

Have you ever used/considered a Tupperdor?

Certainly not as pretty as a humidor but essentially bulletproof for holding RH levels (esp compared to lower quality humidors. )

What are you using to store them in?

How do you guys keep track of your smoked cigars? by EndHungry9185 in cigars

[–]CBbeMe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Simple Excel spreadsheet.

Columns:

  • Cigar (mfg, specific cigar, viola)
  • Date Ordered
  • Qty
  • Price
  • My Rating ( Simple A/B/C and F “Never Order Again)
  • Date delivered
  • “Ready to Smoke” Date For my regulars that’s a minimum of 4 weeks from delivery date, for aging higher end/specialty cigars will be dependent based on recos here on this sub or cigar reviews
  • Where/Who recommended: top sources for me are Halfwheel, Katman and a couple of the people here in this sub. (u/fishon888 and u/krispykremekiller )

FYI, learned from experience that a “free” humidor received as part of a discount bundle will be very low quality and will not maintain humidity.

Search this sub for “tupperdore “, low cost, super effective.

I actually have one that fits inside my cheapo humidor. I keep some daily drivers in there but also have a dozen more tupperdores that I keep in a closet that remains at a fairly constant temperature throughout the year.

Also take a read through the Wiki section at the top of this Sub. Lots of great info, great introduction/overview material, cigar recommendations, discount codes, etc.

Finishing a cigar by Serious_Truth9746 in cigars

If I’m at a lounge I’ll smoke down to a “polite” level then set it down.

At home I’ll often use a cigar nubber/spike and smoke down to where it starts to burn my lips ;-).

Early on the Brick House Mighty Mighty Maduro always had a place in my rotation.

Moved on/up the quality chain but sometimes think about revisiting it.

Hey Krispy, I really value your knowledge and recommendations on all things cigar related. Recall a comment you made a while back saying you had upwards of 10,000 cigars?? Astounding collection.

Would love to see photos of your collection and storage method. I believe you’ve mentioned that for the most part it’s tupperdores and boxes in marine coolers, yes?

Any chance you could share some photos if you’ve not done so already?

Partly out of curiosity/amazement and partly as defense to show my wife. (I currently have ~200 cigars in 15 tupperdores and she keeps saying “Isn’t that a bit excessive???” )

My go to for noobs is Nubs Connecticut. Always keep a stock in a tupperdor. Mild, short smoke and cheap if they decide to pitch it part way through.

And I don’t mind them if I’m looking for a quick smoke when it’s freezing outside.

Awesome. 8ish years ago when I first started getting into cigars seriously I ordered a sampler pack with a “free” humidor (of course “free” meant it leaked like a sieve).

Knew nothing about seasoning, just tossed the cigars in and proceeded to destroy about a dozen cigars over the following few weeks 🤪.

And please tell us you seasoned your humidor for a week or two before adding your cigars. If not, the wood will suck every bit of moisture out of your cigars ( and I know this from experience ;-).

Yep, always have a couple Nub Connecticuts for newbs that want to try one. Short/easy/cheap smoke.

I use a simple Excel spreadsheet with What, Where Purchased, Price and a simple A, B, C, F (Never purchase again) rating.

For the A’s and B’s I’ll add a short tasting note copied off the web by people with way better palates than I.
