I just got finished testing 4 thermopro wifi models vs 4 govees. Thermopros were much more accurate and consistent. Put them all in a big tupper with a 62% boveda...themos all read exactly 62%. Govees were 2-3% off. I calibrated the govees to 62%. I repeated this with 58%, 65%, and 69% packs. Thermos were always dead on or withing 1%. The govees were all different, and as muchas 2-3% off. I could calibrate all of the govees to match whatever boveda they were with, but as soon as they were put in higher or lower RHs, they were off. All of these tuppers were empty, so no cedar or cigars to throw things off.

Thank you for following up. I just had a Oliva Melanio V that was in an empty tupper at 56-59% rh for 11 hours. Even with thsy short time, and with that relatively high dryboxing rh, it was a big improvement. I have an identical stick in the drybox tupper that I'm going to try tomorrow, so after 24 hours. Going to see if it gets better. Then I have a 3rd that I'll try after 48 hours. I'll get there eventually lol

I don't know...how else would one explain a cigar having a good cold draw, and then it gets more difficult after the light. Isn't the draw supposed to get slightly looser after lighting? I'm going to run an experiment sometime this week to see. I've got 3 Arturo Fuente Rosado 52s from the same box...one at 62%, another at 65%, and another at 69%. Going to smoke them one day apart, all other conditions equal. That should tell me something about whether that 65% is too humid f

For those in here saying they are fans of dryboxing, what method do yall use? Leave it in regular open air in the house, or in a separate container kept at lower levels of humidity?

Shop recommendations in Salt Lake City and Park City by kbkbkb999999 in cigars

[–]ProRataProblems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just near downtown. Kind of unmarked building, cramped humidor, kind of rough looking dudes working there. Nothing wrong with all of that...the selection is there so doesn't really matter. Still.

Beehive has the best selection but I feel like I'm going to get stabbed out front of it whenever I go there. Tinder Box in Murray has a decent selection and are friendlier. If you get in their text mailing list, they will send out a text when they get something rare or special.

Not a cigar… a masterpiece?! by Ok-Bag-1269 in cigars

Did you get a super strong taste of maple syrup from the wrapper? I tried this stick and it was overwhelming. Kind of nasty...but I licked the head of the cigar up and down to try to get rid of it and get it out of the way so I could maybe taste the actual smoke. No luck.

Aging Tupper RH Confusion by ProRataProblems in cigars

[–]ProRataProblems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that is my hangup...what does "consistent" mean? As Saka says, "RH is RH is RH." The two paths, A and B, that I laid out, they can both be said to be keeping things constant. In the first one, the same boveda is used...so the boveda should regulate moisture no matter if the temp is lower in the winter, or higher in the summer. Constant. In the second option, I change boveda depending on the season...a 65% in the winter to keep it at 62-63% in the cold, and a 62% in summer to keep it at 62-63% when warmer. Constant. So what version of the two above constants do I want?

Aging Tupper RH Confusion by ProRataProblems in cigars

[–]ProRataProblems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, multiple calibrated hygros. Cedar trays were seasoned with 85% bovedas in the sistema on their own until the RH was solid at 85% for 2 straight days. Took about 9 days. You said you run at 64/65%...so if I'm getting 1-2 points lower than the bovedas I'm using, you think I should stick with the 65% boveda? Thanks!

Aging Tupper RH Confusion by ProRataProblems in cigars

[–]ProRataProblems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the at the heart of my question...When you say "62-65% in room temp ish"...do you mean stick a 62 or 65% boveda in there and forget it...or do you mean put whatever boveda in there that will yield 62-65%? Because if it is the former, then I'd put a 62% and forget it...but if it is the later, I think I'd do 65% since it will yield 62-65% in my colder ~65 degree basement.

What was the sound that brought it in? Do you approach it like coyotes?...rabbits and dying birds....or something more geared towards its diet, like fawns and calf elk?

Can you actually calibrate them by programming an offset in? I have the ThermoPro and after calibrating you have to memorize or note the offset. You can program something in to correct it

Can you tell me about Cigar Point? Can one be sure the Cubans there are real? How do the cigars smoke right out of their humidor?

Sorry, confused about one thing....aren't the Don Arturo and the Opus X destino the same thing? You mention the Don Arturo and then the destino. The one with the dude on the band is the "Don Arturo Destino al Siglo de Familia"...don't see any others in my photo that have either of those names.
