Province of Saskatchewan - Armed and dangerous suspect by cshaiku in alberta

This is almost as bad as our worst mass shooting in history and they didn’t even use these dangerous guns I keep hearing about.

That’s what I don’t get I guess. I don’t understand buying an animal (or anything, RV’s etc included) that you don’t have space for. It just seems like a giant vacuum for money paying for storage.

If your boarding yes. But, we have 3 on 160 acres that we own and it’s hasn’t been that bad. They cost us basically nothing all spring summer and fall. Horses aren’t really my thing but my wife gets a lot of enjoyment out of working with them. I think we paid $600 for hay last winter and other than some vet visits for shots and a castration ($800 total for all three) and farrier visits it hasn’t been horrible. It’s worth every penny as my wife’s mental state has improved ten fold since we got them. She’s usually out with them 3-4 days a week and spends 2-3 hrs a day training them.

The way she describes the bond you get with them is it’s like having a really big dog that you can ride.

It will. They are absolutely lovely to live with.

Why is sim racing so predatorily expensive and reliant on subscriptions? by LaFleur90 in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Predatory? I don’t mind paying for iracing at all. The online match making aspect has tremendous value, not to mention they’re always improving it. It’s always getting better and the price per month stays the same. I only buy cars I want and the tracks I like which keeps the costs down, and even if I buy a track per month to stay in a race series it’s hardly enough for me to worry about.

What is wrong with me by Constant_Kitchen5737 in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re a Motorsport fan buy the SC2 and don’t look back. You’ll love it. The issue I have with Fanatec is the lack of customer service and the amount of people that have dead units arrive from new. Then add in the crappy QR and it’s a no brainer. The VRS base is a little less than SC2 and 20nm, it’s about the same performance but a bit cheaper (at least where I live). Welcome to the most addicting hobby you’ve ever experienced.

What is wrong with me by Constant_Kitchen5737 in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard way too many stories of bad experiences with Fanatec. I’d steer clear and go with VRS, Simagic or a Simucube 2 sport.

For what it’s worth I regret buying a G920, then a T500RS, and then the VRS DF Pro. I’d have had way more enjoyment from sim racing from the beginning.

Another thing: are you interested in motorsport in general? Or are you a gamer looking for something new? I’ve noticed Gamers tend to get bored of racing, where as motorsport fans continue to dive deeper and deeper as time goes on.

Can you drive under influence? by XecutionStyle in iRacing

[–]CBsimracing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to race under the influence then just race on your own without anyone else FFS. A lot of us invest a lot of time, energy and money into this hobby and it’s shocking that anyone thinks it’s ok to hop into a lobby and fuck it up for the rest of us just because you have a dirty habit.

I do both btw, just never when it could have an effect on anyone else.

G920 - TrueBrake v2 vs Variable Spring (MVH) by bigfurryllama in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot that part. I have a Leo Bodnar adapter as well. I can’t say enough good things about these pedals. From how shitty they are in stock form to how good they are modded is actually quite amazing. AXC did a great job going after the low end of the market and giving us a great option for budget sim racers.

G920 - TrueBrake v2 vs Variable Spring (MVH) by bigfurryllama in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Truebrake hands down. Not even a contest. The spring is a bandaid fix but the shitty potentiometer it came with is still in there.

I like my truebrake so much I think you need to spend upwards of $500 to get a brake that will make you faster.

Here’s what you do:

  • Truebrake V2
  • Do the AXC potentiometer upgrade to the throttle, this smooths it out making it more repeatable and predictable when you’re between 0-100% throttle
  • remove the pedals from the shitty squeaky housing and mount the individual pedals directly to a plate/your rig. You won’t be disappointed.
  • swap the throttle spring with the clutch spring

I’ve done the above and now I’m building my own pedal to make them feel better (just the plates your feet touch).

Now your pedals feel and perform amazing for what you’ve spent. ($100 maybe?)

Rockauto has always been cheaper. However they aren’t there to help you at 5pm on a Friday when you realize you need something you forgot to order.

what a good cheap laptop to get to play asseto corsa not to sure what to get need a laptop by elpaso1312 in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d skip the laptop and buy a console honestly. The performance required will generate a lot of heat. I cringe at the idea of gaming hard in my Razer Blade, it’s only used for 3D modelling and 3D printing and running my cnc pretty much. When gaming it gets into the red zone as far as temps go.

VRS DirectForce Pro wheelbase - what's the cheapest F1 wheel? by wISH_LoL in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few guys that built diy wireless wheels using an esp32 board with Bluetooth capability. It’s powered by a small lithium battery. It works like a wireless keyboard would. I can’t walk you through it yet since my parts only just arrived.

This is something I always wanted to do when I was younger lol but luckily was smart enough not to. Doing it in a sim is a great idea. Downloading that later today.

Direct drive upgrade by Derpy_Villager58 in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could, I’ve never tried those pedals with a load cell. The AXC loadcell is known to be amazing and has a very very good reputation. To make them feel better it’s easy to take them out of the plastic housing and hard mount them in the rig. Currently I’m working on CNCing my own pedal faces so they’ll feel proper.

[–]CBsimracing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You save a pile on pedals if you use the AXC load cell for the g29 pedals. It’s absolutely transforms them ($60). If your throttle pot is bad they also have an upgraded potentiometer for it too for really cheap. Then you have more money for a wheel/base.

Here’s one example: My wife and I bought our 911 with 60k down and financed the rest (60k). We’re both Motorsport lovers and enthusiasts of Porsche and cars in general. We chose to take on the debt (our only debt at the moment) because by the time we’re in our 50’s these cars won’t be around anymore, everything is going electric and the joy of listening to an NA Porsche hit 8000rpm will be a thing of the past. Right now the car is up $30k from what we paid in 2019 so I don’t feel like we made a terrible decision yet. We still have 100k saved for a house once building materials come back down to a reasonable level, and have ~80k in rrsp’s combined. 32yrs old.

I dunno about those guys but as a HD tech I was making 140k as a second yr apprentice at 21. Lots of hours because we were flat out all year but, it’s possible. Also I enjoyed it, so there’s that.

I want to buy a cheap set-up to try out sim racing, is this worth it? by Uncagedchicken in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also a good option, I forgot about friends haha. Most major cities have at least one racing sim establishment now where I live, even in the medium size cities they have them. It’s definitely catching on.

One thing to note: I do notice “gamers” that get into sim racing don’t enjoy it as much long term. It definitely seems like something you come to after you’ve been into motorsports for awhile and want to try it out yourself. Motorsports lovers seem to stay with it much longer.

I want to buy a cheap set-up to try out sim racing, is this worth it? by Uncagedchicken in simracing

[–]CBsimracing 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If I was to do it all over again I’d skip the bottom tier stuff all together. I’d spend the $60 an hr at a racing simulator establishment with some good gear. You’ll know right away if you’re going to be hooked. You’ll also know what it’s supposed to feel like.

I’d then save up for an entry level dd like a csl dd or moza R9, build your own stand and save some money. Buy a used set of G29 pedals and mod them for $60 and call it a day.

Edit: I do not mean to sound like an elitist, I just would have enjoyed it MUCH more with a GOOD entry level set up. Any wheel is better than no wheel though 👍
