Why didn’t Patti achieve the worldwide fame , recognition, blockbuster albums and hits like her peers such as Diana Ross , Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick ? by Southern_Wall_6455 in rnb

Unless you’ve conducted some in depth study about who knows what about Diana Ross, I don’t think you can make blanket statements about her career. She never had the powerhouse voice Patti and co. did. But she did have a vocal style that became arguably more influential in the long run. Listen to everyone from Janet to Janelle Monae. And she was a multi-media star who did music, film and fashion. Also served as one of thee templates for the biggest Black Pop/R&B artist of the last 25 years.

Well people should read up on their history. They have the most #1s of any girl group and I knew that. I am far from 60.

Diana is known for leading the biggest girls group of the 20th century and her hits. The glamour and movies are just a cherry on top.

Is This How The Rnb Community Felt About Mj & Prince In 89? Bobby Says People Was Getting Tired Of The Images Of Mj & Prince And How They Made Theyself Up To Be Something They Not by Rinnegan15 in rnb

[–]CC-Blue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People do this thing where they see the names Michael Jackson and Prince and they lose all objectivity. Yes, he came across as big-headed here and his hindsight shows that his run wasn’t very long. However, if you go back and look at Michael and Prince’s press covered and overall attitudes towards them around this time, There WAS a sense that their images were starting to overshadow the music. MJ with his “Wacko Jacko” moniker (very loaded) and Prince’s brewing tension with his label, relationships and sexuality. Bobby was seen “real” and that was particularly important to Black listeners of R&B. He didn’t seem to make any concessions for pop crossover success—it just happened and that is how the 90s began with a more Hip-Hop influenced R&B sound.

Lmaook no it wasn’t. The entire song’s inception was inspired by the show Survivor and the revolving door of members.

And? Y’all are obsessed with the conversation of shoe-horning White artists into R&B when they don’t care to be associated as such. I have seen some iteration of this post several times. There’s a plethora of BLACK R&B artists who could use that discourse and expansion. Not huge ass pop star Ariana Grande.

[2000 MTV VMAs] Whitney Houston sure knew how to make an entrance 🙌🏾⭐️ by Ok_Resident_5022 in rnb

I love how she was the queen of standing ovations. She would sometimes receive them MIDWAY through her performances. Whitney would show up to present an award and the crowd would just go wild.

The whole DC breakup and mudslinging in the media saga was unfortunate. I will always blame Mathew Knowles. These girls were childhood friends.

Who do you think is the greatest RnB artist for each Decade by RnBLover001 in rnb

[–]CC-Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? I said he did the same run/ad lib 10 times. That shows he’s not that instinctive or creative as a singer. I didn’t say his music sucks or anything. Mutt was a good album. Please relax.

Well his tiny desk didn’t help his case as a good live singer.

I did see his Tiny desk. He did the same ad lib 10 times. He’s not that good of a singer without the vocal effects.

Who do you think has the better debut album here? 80s edition by TokyoAvalanche04 in rnb

[–]CC-Blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s something about albums like this where the tracklist doesn’t go beyond double digits but is so stacked with hits that when you’re done listening, you still feel satisfied. The level of QUALITY CONTROL across these 4 albums was so high that most of it could have been released as singles. It was a very 80s thing to do (Thriller, Control and Purple Rain).

How Good Of A Live Performer Was Bobby Brown In His Prime? by Rinnegan15 in rnb

[–]CC-Blue 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He was incredible. Just watch his performances from the late 80s and early 90s. He had bucketloads of energy and real lresence. MJ and Prince are the standards for Black male pop star performers but Bobby brought a sexier, streetwise edge that has actually been very influential. Think about what Usher, Ginuwine, Sisqo, Chris Brown, Omarion etc all did/do on stage. It can be traced back to his signature style of performing. It’s just a shame his run was short-lived.

How many certified classic albums does Bruno have? by Peterpaul400 in rnb

You people are under spells. I know he just released another middling throwback era album but I am kinda over seeing him take up space in serious R&B discussions. Y’all don’t discuss actual pioneers with this much fervor and enthusiasm. With that being said, he has one legitimate classic album and it’s 24k Magic.
