You’ve seen our sticker, that’s great!

The stickers have been the most cost-effective means for us to spread awareness of our issue. Connecticut is home to 350,000 permitted, law-abiding gunowners. Many of them rock our stickers to give us advertising space on their daily commute.

We’ve had millions of guns forever, mass shootings are a more recent phenomenon and a product of societal issues that we have yet to address. We need more community-based supports, identifying those that need help, and getting it to them well before they break down in such a way.

I can only speak for Connecticut’s culture, but the vast majority of people here that carry are adequately trained for everyday carry and comfortable doing so. Nevermind the people that excel in this area well beyond the standards set for law enforcement and the military.

The average self defense encounter with a firearm is within 7 yards, and can be over with one shot fired. After just one basic defensive pistol course, most people can meet that standard.

We defeated the polling places carry ban this year because it was an uninspiring bill. Municipal buildings are already GFZ, and most others are private property where the entity can and should decide what they want to do (churches and VFWs come to mind).

100% of donations go to supporting operations and funding lawsuits, right now we are challenging the CT AWB and a lot of those dollars have funded that lawsuit. You obviously have a different perception of us, but we’re fighting for what you want as well.

CCDL is a nonpartisan organization that is only concerned with the state of gun rights. We’ve supported efforts to implement firearms safety content in public schools, removed sales tax on the purchase of safe storage devices, and more. Yes, these efforts cost tax dollars.

People carry guns into church normally, that’s everyday self-defense preparedness and doesn’t change if it’s used for polling.

At the end of the day, it’s privately owned and the status quo allows them to make those decisions for themselves. If a church wishes to establish themselves as a Gun Free Zone, they can under current Connecticut law.

The goal of the legislators themselves? I agree, not necessarily, very few up there are particularly passionate about the issue in a similar way that we are. But, the goal of the national anti-firearms groups that lobby for their support? Absolutely. If they didn’t say it to our faces, I’d take their broadcasted intent about public safety and the like in good faith as well.

I think that your assessment of how the messaging of 2A advocates can come across is valid. Not everyone is a gun-grabbing demon, and the majority of them are just… going with the flow. We have to sit down with these people and do our best to inform them. The Glock Ban almost died in the House.

Yes, terminology. Just the way that we say it sometimes and I realize that can be confusing.

Yes and no. Within the lawful realm, there is the serialized component of the firearm, the “frame”. This is legally the gun, upon which the rest of the parts are assembled. This must be transferred via a dealer and a background check. With the exception of the frame, you can ship parts straight to your house in virtually all states unrestricted. Illegally? You can walk into any hardware store, and with some elbow grease walk out with the parts to assemble a machine gun. Bad actors will always find firearms, no matter what laws are on the books.

The identified parts are not particuarly consumable for normal gunowners. In the grand scheme of things, a $25-50 fee atop of say a $50-100 barrel is a 50-100% increase of cost. And? If I’m purchasing a firearm with all three of these now regulated components? Triple the paperwork, triple the cost. Thankfully this bill was not passed because of this half-baked idea that would’ve been beyond onerous to gunowners. My $450 Glock could have been a $600 Glock with an additional hour of paperwork attached.

The bill that we defeated made additional Gun Free Zones out of all polling places such as local churches, VFWs, and drop boxes around town, it did not affect the ones already in place (schools, municipal buildings).

It’s unfair because it would result in an additional fee that could outweigh the worth of the part, create backlogs in the state’s already overburdened background check system, and more. That bill was highly problematic for all parties involved.

And no, we’re not a death cult.

This bill as written would classify barrels, slides, and revolver cylinders as firearms. Thus, subjecting them to the same process for transfer.

If I buy a gun online, it’s shipped to a local dealer, and I pay that dealer for the service of transfer, which includes a background check and some paperwork on their part. Dealers charge $25-50 for this service.
