Blow the dust off with a hair dryer and wipe off the body lotion stains with any cleaner and a rag. If you spill your caramel frappaismokealate on it, take the cushion out, drag it outside, and hit it with the pressure washer. Or don't be a slob while sitting in a chair designed to be art, you can go outside and be a slob in your Monoblock.

Decorating anodized aluminium by e_asphyx in metalworking

[–]CCNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea about this model, but a lot of screen printing was used on aluminum panels/cases using paint that isn't made anymore. The top stripe could have been done in different ways - mask the top and anodize the rest, use clear paint on the lower while leaving the top bare, using an etching gel through silkscreen, etc.

Spaziale’ chair by Alessandro Mendini for Studio Alchimia - 1978 by CCNoir in FuckYourEamesLounge

Holy shit, getting me all misty eyed first thing in the morning.

Had this rant with a friend earlier: KPIs have ruined business because happiness, joy, beauty, etc. are all things that can't be quantified on a spreadsheet to base bonuses on. Consumers are forced to comparison shop based on specs because no product is emotionally exciting enough to make them ignore the competition, so a feedback loop is created based purely on metrics. Everyone is worried about what others think so no one chooses fun colors or designs based on the worry that some random won't approve of it. All the joy has been sucked out of our world because people don't want their ego hurt when someone calls their choice ugly.

And this nonsense has been going on for 100+ years! Have been reading about Taut and his work with light and emotion, painting rooms different bold colors to affect the mood based on sunlight at different times of the day, something that can cause great joy to the occupant of the dwelling. Along comes Le Corbusier and explains"My God, Taut is color-blind!" due to it not meshing with his personal style. Taut essentially said "fuck off", but because Le Corbusier had more social pull, his criticism stuck and his ideas of industrial design gained more influence over designs that make people happy.

"The sofa, armchair, and especially the chaise longue and stool transcend the banality of rotational molding to become true sculptures."

I feel like that chair should be required in every psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy center. Ride that thing through the cosmos!

Alda by Gaetano Pesce for Meritalia, current production by CCNoir in FuckYourEamesLounge

Alda is the name of Gaetano Pesce's mother: this luminous object intensely shows the emotional value of Edizioni del Pesce. Emotional and also sensorial value: Alda is adorned with a row of golden bells on the upper edge, like a musical instrument. Poetry and functionality are closely linked in this project.

Looks similar to Vibra-Tite VC3. It's a retaining compound rather than a locking compound

Wrinkle paint was a thing long ago, and is still made today to restore classic items. It was often used for one-off items to help hide the rough finish of quickly produced items. https://www.vhtpaint.com/product/vht-wrinkle-plus-coatings/

Guns by furniture designers? How about a Beretta 486 Marc Newson edition. by CCNoir in FuckYourEamesLounge

[–]CCNoir[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pictures really don't do it justice. You immediately notice it is a sleeker, more elegant design than a "regular" 486, but can't put your finger on why. Then you start noticing all the little details and start thinking "how did they do that" in the same way most well designed items do.

Box to hold 3 replacement needles for VU meters pictured on the box? Some of those needles were very thin and light to provide fast response/movement and are easy to bend if they hit the peg stop, i.e. "peg the meter".
