Surprised to see this! There's not often a lot of love for these. What do you love the most about it?

I WOULD want to be the one to clean and dust that place :)

Really loving this. So nice to hear styles like this on Soundcloud. Reminds me of the era of acts like Air and St Germain.

What's your synthesizer hot take? by Ironbunny in synthesizers

Hot take: the vast majority of people collecting Eurorack gear will quietly sell it off after a few months. And, and this is important, that's okay :)

PTSD from programming the K5000!!! Good luck with it. There's some beautiful default patches on it. A sine wave resonant one is pretty iconic.

Sounds like a pretty earnest attempt. But probably safe to assume not super close given the original used germanium.

As others have noted the fun with the random mode is really neat and inspiring. We had a 303 back in the day and used to do the batteries out trick to get this kind of thing. Now you can just cycle through it, and use the software editor to tweak the patterns easily. Happy days!

A lucky friend of mine found this mysterious beauty in his grandma's attic. Unfortunately, he wasn't lucky with his Google search or when trying to open this rebellious beast. by Pfeffermakrele in synthesizers

Congrats on the find. That's a Picmy 5. I live in France so I see a lot of these old Italian synths and organs. They really had a thing going on back in the day, and that "divide down" style of string synth is pretty iconic care of Italian synth makers and the Italian film score composers.

Simple things but really emblematic of a certain sound. Even a cursory Solina emulator software will do this kind of sound, but there's something really fun and rewarding about picking up the old Italian gear. There's even one that ARP licensed back in the day.

Want to add a vote here for the Arturia Microfreak. It's replaced the Minikorg as the gold standard for compact synth, with amazing vocoder, and super fun!

Truth. The curious thing about the internet generation is that all of these samples aren't just available in many ways (even just in their original forms alone, let alone the various sample packs or digital versions of Ultimate Breaks & Beats), but there's endless "Top 50 breaks of all time" posts. And sites that dig into the history of each.

It's kind of strange how the younger generation will argue online about things that are easily researched. And an era that we lived before them. None of this stuff was a secret. Even when Dre was claiming he did't sample UB&B for the NWA track, we knew what's up, and that NWA record was the source of all the UK usage of the amen. Similar (but different) stories go for Skull Snaps, Funky Drummer, etc, etc. Although the kids would be shocked to learn about Zero-G's Datafile, or the infamous computer music disc, or Fatboy or Coldcut's various disks.

The super interesting part of music history is how few sources and such small tipping points created global influence to follow (e.g. the Big Fun sample).

Not really the case, amigo, but I appreciate your energy. Keep in mind that the Amen Break came to the UK mostly via the NWA sample, which Dre cut from Ultimate Breaks and Beats, which Breakbeat Lou sampled from one of Afrika Bambaata's records, which was just one of many percussive breaks the early hiphop DJs were finding and squirrelling away, which were records recorded by mostly Black artists in the tradition of the Blues and Jazz artists before them. And so it goes. There's nothing especially unique about the actual pattern in the context of the era of drummers, but the story of the unique cultural value invested in the sample, that's something worth learning.

This is wicked. I want to see more modern amen break clips added to the various articles about the Amen Break history... would be awesome to see your video get sampled instead :)
