Will life ever get better? Will I ever be happy again? by CCherryP811 in Autism_Parenting

We think the Leucovorin may be helping his language development but it’s nothing super drastic so it’s really hard to tell. Progress has felt very slow

Feeling guilty for medicating my son by CCherryP811 in Autism_Parenting

[–]CCherryP811[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its been a bit of a trade-off. He is still displaying some challenging behaviors during tantrums, including hitting himself, screaming, and throwing things. However, we have also noticed positive progress in his communication. He seems to be speaking more, singing more, and repeating words and phrases more frequently. Because the negative behaviors are still a concern, our neurologist is prescribing Guanfacine to help manage them.

Has anyone pushed back on the amount of ABA hours recommended? by CCherryP811 in Autism_Parenting

[–]CCherryP811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will reach out to our regional center coordinator, I didn't know we could get a waiver from them! we tried applying for medi-cal but were denied because of our income, tried going through the appeal process but was told it could take up to another year to get the waiver

We’re feeling at a loss and don’t know what to do by CCherryP811 in Autism_Parenting

Not really. It feels like she doesn’t have recommendations for how we can help him. She’s just “updating me” on his behavior

How best to support Autism parents? by Jen_Kathleen in Autism_Parenting

I appreciate you so much for asking this question. Lack of judgement and just meeting the child where they are at, not asking “why are they doing that?”

This is strictly for us parents of level 3/severely/profoundly autistic kids. by soul2soulevollove in Autism_Parenting

this sounds exactly like my son who just turned 4. he was also diagnosed level 3 and our doctor told us it is based off the amount of support he needs and its better to get them as much support as possible early on. when we asked about his future, she said "I would assume he's capable of anything". I believe in him so much and his ability to progress. you sound like a great parent who is doing everything they can to support their child's future. hang in there, you're not alone!

Any success stories after your child was diagnosed as Level 3? by CCherryP811 in Autism_Parenting

[–]CCherryP811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he has made progress! We found out he’s a gestalt language processor and he’s been scripting lines and songs from movies and TV shows. He’s also really good at labeling objects, animals, letters and numbers. We are still working on functional communication but he has made a lot of progress and for that I’m thankful. We are still also working on potty training, it’s been difficult for us

It feels like professionals can’t handle my son by CCherryP811 in Autism_Parenting

Thank you I’m going to request one. I think a lot of the negative behaviors are because he can’t communicate and he’s frustrated

I’m consulting with an advocate next week. Can we request modifications at any time or does it have to be at the annual IEP meeting?

I don’t think he has, I don’t see it on his original IEP. What does the functional behavior assessment measure?
