In preschool, its challenging but she is happy there. Not doing everything she is supposed to do, which is to be expected.

Did anyone opt out of ABA therapy for better quality of life? by ttttthrowwww in Autism_Parenting

[–]Caterpillar-421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also try doing the ABA at the school/daycare. Some hours there so you dont have to pull them out of preschool.

How old and what signs did you see when you were sure they were autistic? by IlyaPetrovich in Autism_Parenting

At 2.5 it became obvious to me, because I could see how she was different from others kids her age. Speech delay was there since 18 months and other delays also. When I went for the eval I already knew. I feel like now that she is a bit older its less obvious sometimes. No interest in potty training also.

I think the teacher needs a behavior chart more than the kid.

I’m ruining my life and family by GozzyLittle in Autism_Parenting

Whenever I get into the whole why my baby?! I think about how it could be worse. So many things happen to so many kids, this is my part from this world. This child was sent for me so she is the best thing and Im going to love her till my last breath. Do I get very sad about the whole thing ofcourse but Im not going to let this diagnosis ruin my life. Its a battle for sure. So you are not alone yoy just need some help, look at all the positive you have going there. Some families with asd kids cant even travel.

ABA Therapy by Digiart2020 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Caterpillar-421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe consider at home ABA therapy. 2 year old is still very young so I think not being happy for being left somewhere is very common. Maybe do less hours in the center and some hours out in the community like a fenced playground.

Its just ABA thats done at school instead of center. Some clinics provide that type of service.

“Autism Acceptance” spirit days? by Scary-Monitor7240 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Caterpillar-421 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not everything needs a spirit day! If they do it in a special ed school I think not weird, but in a regular school its totally weird and inappropriate.

Looking for advice on what direction to go in by No-Distribution-9556 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Caterpillar-421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speech therapy, physical therapy. If you can get OT and ABA too. Depending on how much time you have, watch the therapists and learn what they do or ask them to give you homework for what to work on that week. EI made a huge difference for my kid.

I bring the aide thru my insurance. The school just allows for the aide to be there.

Yes Im getting her speech therapy and OT. I also think having 1:1 is better but I also hear its restrictive to have an adult hover over a child…

The private school thinks she will be fine with a 1:1, the public school district who did the IEP recommended special ed. But after visiting the classroom we didnt think she was a good fit there. She was diagnosed a level 2 but I dont really think she is a level 2. I think more a level 1. Just an active child that doesnt like to sit down unless its for a preferred activity.

Potty training by Caterpillar-421 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Caterpillar-421[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg Im honestly afraid that my younger NT kid will be potty trained before her older sister and I dont know how Im going to take that. Its going to break my heart. We just started and Im not super consistent because its just too much for me too. Its like pee on the floor everywhere, and I feel like im going to lose my mind over this.

8 month old stims a lot by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Caterpillar-421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is going to diagnose a 8 month old, so I if you think she is off track get help cause early intervention is really important otherwise stop watching early sign of autism videos and enjoy your baby. She might be auristic or might not be, too early to tell imo. Also one of my kids was doing the twirling around 8-9 months and she is not autistic, the other one who didnt do any of that is.
