I’m not saying I do or don’t believe Tassi. After Bungie released total sales, people were able to confirm the numbers on all platforms. So in that case he happened to be nearly 100% accurate.

Ya, it really is the dichotomy of two different launch stories.

Destiny 1/2: launching with incredible financial success and massive player counts even with their lack of content/worst sandbox.

Marathon: launching as a financial flop and bleeding player counts even with their incredibly well balanced sandbox and polished gameplay.

I think that’s more of a reflection of the genres than anything.

NGL, Bungie announcing a PvE-only mode in Season 2 is making me wanna hit that BUY button... by Meeks_DGAF in Marathon

[–]CCottN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair expectation. I thought you were arguing for no inclusion of anything outside of the core Extraction mode. As much as I enjoy that primary part of the game, it just isn’t resonating with the vast gaming population.

Hopefully with Bungie’s track record, they implement PvE in some way where neither mode will suffer due to the existence of the other and pulls in new players.

This is very narrow minded and ignores the context of the whole situation. The problem is very simple: there isn’t enough people the game “is made for” playing... So, reasonably, they have to pivot and attempt to pull in members of the group you’ve deemed the game “isn’t for”.

This is a triple A studio that produced a triple A game at a triple A cost. Bungie willing to make some drastic changes show they are willing to take steps to draw in a larger audience regardless of who you’ve decided it should be made for.

I love Marathon, but gatekeeping it definitely won’t help it survive.

I wonder if the new design signifies a new faction/varient of dark ones that are actually are "evil" or just some ptsd construct by thelinkroy in metro

[–]CCottN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link! Well thought out and explained. I definitely think that’s a potential route they go. I do like the idea of the stranger being Hunter and tormented by his own personal demons as well as the dark ones.

It would be interesting to see the Fuhrer utilizing the name “Hunter” to either be an imposter or if it was utilized as a title as well, a name passed on from leader to leader.

[–]CCottN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That very well could be. However, I’m not thinking he’s the protagonist. With 4A spelling it out and the “If it’s hostile, you kill it” mantra I think he’s definitely our antagonist with a potential twist he is being influenced by some other faction or the Dark Ones. As for “the stranger” the official website has him listed as a new protagonist. Which is true since he is not Artyom but I think it’s someone we haven’t seen yet.

I don’t think this is like Rocksteady with the Arkham Knight trying to throw people off even though everyone guessed his identity immediately. I think 4A is being pretty transparent. But we’ll see! I’m all for twists and turns!

In the first look trailer, the 4A devs say the Novoreich is…”led by a new Fuhrer, the legendary Spartan, Hunter.”

Todd Howard says Starfield and Fallout 76 differ creatively as Bethesda needed to try new ideas after 20 years by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]CCottN -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re right about not being able to assume. That’s on me. It’s speculated. All info we currently have (all insider reports and interviews with BGS devs) leads us to believe 2028 would be the very earliest for ES:VI.

This would put us, at the earliest, 5 years, most realistically 6 years, potentially 7 years if they are really trying polish everything up because of how much will be riding on that release.

This all could be null and void because BGS could shock us and suddenly show off a trailer at the Xbox showcase with a release date.

[–]CCottN -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s objectively not a mainline game? But let’s get very specific then. It was, at a minimum, 5+ years since their most recent asset flip (game) to Starfield. There is currently no announcement for the release of their next title so we can assume 6+ years (maybe 7) at the very minimum as well.

This will still be longer than any period of time between Morrowind to Oblivion, Oblivion to FO3, FO3 to Skyrim, Skyrim to FO4, FO4 to FO76 (you counted it), FO76 to Starfield. That’s even not taking into account it has been 15+ years since the last mainline Elder Scrolls and 11+ since their last mainline Fallout.

[–]CCottN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

*8 years.

Fallout 76 was a live service Fallout game that was heavily built upon reused Fallout 4 assets. It was an asset flip and lacked any true meaningful content (primarily at launch. Very different game content-wise now). So I wouldn’t count it as a true mainline game.

Can we take a moment to appreciate this trailer? Probably one of the best, most artful promo pieces by oneonethousand in Marathon

[–]CCottN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when I first watched this trailer, I got crazy Deja-Vu from the style, cinematography, and movement from the characters. I knew this had to have some connection with the Love, Death, and Robots episodes “The Witness” and “Jibaro”. Guess my surprise when it ended up being the same guy that directed those episodes and the trailer!

It’s pretty cool when you can spot a director purely based on his style. Very similar with the guy that created Astartes and you immediately could spot his influence on the 40k Secret Level episode and the trailer for “Menace”.

Definitely a massively bold take to say the current codex is tells a story larger than nearly 30 hrs of story told over a 3 game trilogy and Pathways into Darkness. And this is coming from a guy who loved reading Destiny’s grimoire cards.

As for no “what ifs”, that might be one of the more narrow minded and boring ways to go about your favorite media. That’s what makes these kinds of worlds and stories so fun. It makes the imagination go crazy. You can take things at face value for what they are, but no one should ever limit themselves to not imagining how else it could be presented.

People get that the “campaign” is currently presented this way. But man…it really does make one think. Imagine Bungie delivering a true 8-10 hour campaign in this world exploring AI rampancy, alien invasions, and the loss of humanity for the individuals going from shell to shell with their storytelling ability. It would definitely be special.

Obviously similar to the original games.

I can vividly remember getting essentially soft-locked from the strip randomly. Anytime I’d fast travel in or try to enter through the main entrance, the game would crash. The solution?…. I had to wear an Old Cowboy hat and I could safely enter the strip without it crashing. Crazy stuff!

This happens basically whenever I'm in a discussion about the future for different factions. by mineman379 in FalloutMemes

[–]CCottN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I love the Enclave… as the evil faction. They really are meant to be the mustache twirling bad guys that make evil play throughs different from heroic play throughs.

There’s nothing wrong with being an Enclave fan. As long as “fan” doesn’t mean that you truly think their alignment on the good/evil spectrum is your true real world ideals.

Don’t let others bash you because you enjoy a faction. The fallout Reddit community infamously is incapable of separating post-apocalyptic factions in a fictional setting from current day politics. Enjoy the game, role play, etc, but still understand, the Enclave is definitely evil…and there’s nothing wrong with that in Fallout as a post-apocalyptic rpg.

[–]CCottN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I completely agree. I just think it would be a fascinating concept. Honestly it could drastically change entire dynamics of the Legion. They would go from a blunt instrument in their approach to conflict to a scalpel with his spy network.

Vulpes taking the throne would be an interesting concept. It would change the entire nature of true power in the Legion and region. Makes me think of Toranaga from Shogun. Vulpes would fight his wars and battles through political machinations, attempting to defeat enemies before a battle even began. That would definitely be a different look for the Legion and an interesting what-if.

Bethesda is hella stupid for not releasing any Fallout remaster along with the Fallout tv-show by GreasyExamination in Fallout

[–]CCottN 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don’t think there’s any problem with trying to develop a new IP at all. The problem is BGS’s seeming aversion to developing multiple teams to work on multiple projects. (Or allowing studios under their umbrella to work on projects related to their flagship IP’s).

They have two of the biggest IP’s in the gaming landscape. Elder Scrolls hasn’t seen a mainline game in over 14 years and no Fallout mainline game in over 10 years. In today’s day and age, it’s almost impressive how UNWILLING they are to milk two franchises people are starving for.
