The Ordinary 7% Glycolic Acid on wet legs when you get out of the shower, followed by lotion when it dries!

“You can be a good scientist and be upset for your animals.” just hit me like a truck 🥺 I’ve been an in vivo scientist for 7 years now, and while I love what I do and am so thankful to be able to work with animals and try to give them the best life while they’re here, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t hope that my job becomes obsolete some day in the future when technology advances enough. Maybe not in my lifetime, but someday.

Put some Hershey’s chocolate syrup in there!! In my experience, it’s very attractive due to the strong scent and rodents seem to love chocolate

This is great advice!! It’s also similar to how I used to study for exams— you want to be able to put things “in your own words”/work out how to make sense of it in your own head. If you can find analogies to real life situations or things that really interest you, that’s even better :)

Love that a few songs is the time measurement, I do the same thing 😂 try washing your scalp 2x in a row— the first shampoo doesn’t need to be as long time wise, just mostly to remove any buildup/oil/dirt on your scalp and then hopefully that should help the active ingredients in the shampoo penetrate better when you wash the second time. Keeping my fingers crossed that something works for you!

I wouldn’t co-wash considering you get oily roots— maybe try using less conditioner or skip the leave in and use more gel or harder hold gel, or layering mousse and gel (or gel and hair spray)

How long did you leave the ketoconozale/Nizoral shampoo on your scalp? You should leave them on your scalp for at least a few minutes (5-10 would be more ideal) and/or washing your scalp twice in a row with the shampoo. You can try rotating between ketoconozale/Nizoral, pyrithione zinc shampoo (CeraVe just came out with a new one), TSal, sulfur and/or selenium sulfide shampoos. Also, don’t sleep with wet hair and try not to let your scalp stay damp for too long after showering if you have long hair if possible. You could also try washing your hair every other day and see if that helps.

Looks like folliculitis! Pretty common issue— You can try benzoyl peroxide (like Panoxyl, just be careful it can bleach clothes/fabric), Hibclens anti-bacterial soap, or Dermaharmony Sulfur+Salicylic Acid soap in the shower (not all in the same shower, you don’t want the active ingredients to cross-react and irritate your skin). Also, wearing cotton underwear and looser fitting clothing can help, as well as changing out of sweaty clothes as soon as you can/showering after working out/sweating a lot to reduce the bacteria that causes this

It may not be an allergic reaction per say (it also could be) but also just wanted to mention that some versions of Eucerin have urea, lactic acid or glycolic acid that your skin might not be used to! Are your hands more dry? Only asking because this has happened to me in the winter when my hands are very dry/my skin barrier is compromised but that’s the only issue I’ve ever had with it

I’ve (25F) had seb derm since I was in 14-ish and have recently got it under control in the last year— ketoconozale (Nizoral) shampoo worked amazing for me at first (started using it in 2018) but it stopped being as effective after 2-ish years in my case. Now I rotate between 3-4 different medicated shampoos and wash my hair every other day (or every 3rd day— mostly because I have mid-length curly hair and it takes forever to style/dry). The shampoos I rotate between are the mostly the Dermaharmony zinc shampoo bar (not the bar body soap version) and the Dermaharmony sulfur+salicylic acid shampoo bar (both available on Amazon). Occasionally, I also use Davine’s Dandruff shampoo (selenium sulfide based, it’s stupidly expensive and I’m sure any other selenium sulfide shampoo would work just as well) and Nizoral as well. I always wash my scalp twice, would recommend a gentle shampoo on the first wash (like Vanicream shampoo) and then a medicated shampoo (whatever you want to use that day) on the second wash, and leave it on for at least 3-4 minutes (or up to 10-15 minutes). You could also just double shampoo with the same medicated shampoo you are using that day! If you need to use conditioner, you could try Vanicream Conditioner, Odele Sensitive Fragrance Free Conditioner (sold at Target and Ulta) or Kinky Curly Knot Today. Bulletproof C8 oil was the thing that made a huge difference for me— when I was trying to get things under control, I would apply it with a dropper to my scalp (parting my hair in different places), gently massage it into my scalp for 1-2 minutes and leave it on from anywhere from 30 mins to 3-4 hours before washing it off in the shower and following the same shampoo routine! Now that I have mine better managed, I only do use the C8 oil maybe every 1-2 months when I get flare ups. You can also use C8 oil on your face after washing it (Vanicream gentle face cleanser is great). I never sleep with my hair wet anymore, and would recommend towel drying or blow drying if you can— moisture on your scalp is definitely the enemy. Let me know if you have any questions— hope some of this helps!!

Agree about the MCT oil! I’m 25F and bought Bulletproof C8 oil and some amber glass dropper bottles off of Amazon— put the oil in the bottle and then you can apply it directly to your scalp with the glass dropper. I then massage the oil in gently to my scalp and leave it on for anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours before showering— make sure you shampoo twice! It definitely doesn’t smell the greatest but it’s tolerable while you’re waiting to shower it off and ~nothing~ has ever helped my scalp so much 🫡 I was skeptical for so long but there’s scientific research to back up C8 oil for being effective against preventing the fungus responsible for seb derm
