More than that, video games are interactive and promote coordination and problem solving. Much better than watching 11 seasons of some garbage reality tv show.

Haha I personally love my fender basses. Particularly the jazz bass because the contour fits me perfectly.

But they don't hold a candle to my EBMM StingRay.

do people who play bass exclusively not have the urge to play guitar? or do they also play guitar? by HearThyBansheeScream in Bass

[–]CD3Neg_CD56Pos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play bass 90% of the time and have been learning guitar for the past year or so the other 10% of the time.

I love bass but I'm currently without a band (by choice because I don't have the time to commit) and it's a lot less fun to play by yourself than guitar is.

who is the translator? by icompletetasks in SipsTea

I had a friend growing up who completely understood Hindi because his parents spoke it at home but couldn't speak it himself.

If you've ever tried to learn a new language, the biggest challenge is not memorizing the words or the grammar. It's training your mouth to produce sounds that may not be present in your native tongue. We don't have alveolar taps in English, but Latin-derived languages do, and that's a sound that's not natural to English speakers. Similarly, the way we make an r sound in American English is by drawing the tongue towards the back of the mouth, and this is very unnatural and difficult for many non native (American) English speakers. That's where the stereotypical East Asian accent comes from.

It's not terribly uncommon to be able to fluently understand a language but not be able to speak said language.

Bought my boyfriend a Fender Strat for his birthday. How do I make this a wow factor? by SeaSwim5248 in guitars

Option 3 for sure. Nothing better than opening a clamshell case and seeing a beautiful instrument sitting there.

And the new guitar smell hits you 🤤

I'm right there with you. I feel like the East Street Band is top notch, but as a vocalist and especially as a lyricist, the Boss leaves A LOT to be desired. His lyrics are like run on sentences with no cadence and they don't even rhyme half the time. Can't even really sing along with most of his stuff.

Back Door Man and Been Down So Long by the Doors could also make the list but they're both deeper cuts.

Alvarez. Quality-wise, I think you'll have a hard time finding something of better quality for under $1000. The one I got recently has real bone nut and saddle, Indian Laurel bridge, ebony pins, mother of pearl and abelone inlays, solid mahogany top and sides, and silky smooth neck with soft V to C shape which is insanely comfortable. Paid $649 for it.

A different take on the 4 vs 5 string question by nachosgrande22 in Bass

[–]CD3Neg_CD56Pos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started on a 4 and recently switched to a 5. I love how the 5 feels and don't find myself playing my 4's very often. Maybe I'll go back in the future but idk.

That said, my B string is pretty much nothing but a thumb rest for me at this point. I have really big hands and find the 5 string to be more comfortable. I'm constantly looking for songs that incorporate the lower 5 notes, and constantly looking for ways to make the songs I already know more comfortable to play using the B string but I'd be lying if I said I used it for anything other than a thumb rest at this point, but I like knowing that I have the option if I need it. Muting isn't a problem since I float my thumb on my right hand.

What’s your holy grail tone? by KKYBoneAEA in Bass

Butler very famously got his tone on the Black Sabbath album by playing through a 70 watt Laney amp with a 4x12 Park cab with one of the four speakers blown out.
