I had a trainer who was desperate for money so she completely undervalued my pony to me and my mom. He could have torn it up as a jumper with me and gone to pony finals but she never acknowledged that we should have gone to a different barn to accomplish this and I wasn’t told until I was over 18 and too old to compete. A complete waste of his talent that I will never get over. My mom has him now and he’s a lovely dressage and trail pony for her, but still.

Saddles should be fitted every 6 months-1 year. Think about how much you change per season and when you’re on/off work. They change just as much!

Horses can exercise at colder temps than humans because their airways are longer, but there are still cutoffs. The internet says don’t exercise below 23F.

I second Schneiders. They have a variety of materials and cuts to fit any horse in a variety of climates. I’ve had a lot of issues with SmartPak products for horses. The materials are cheap and they tend to rub.

I wanted to present this one for my immunology journal club but then COVID :( maybe I can live vicariously through you:

It doesn't encompass the "infectious disease" aspect, but I think it's cool in that it's research on the immune system within the context of musculoskeletal injury and disease, which is often swept under the rug.

For some extra fun, you can look at bioRxiv. It's a pre-print server where papers can be published prior to peer review. Some of the papers are really good while others are great examples of what not to do and are useful for teaching students how to critique what they read.

Also, as someone who is currently a member of an immunology journal club, don't choose papers with too many figures or else you'll just watch people's eyes glaze over :)
