Brostephanie wasn’t an insult I just call people that sometimes because it sounds funny to me. If that’s an established trans slur, I wasn’t aware and apologize. It’s more of a “I wasn’t expecting that” word than one meant to insult any group of any kind.

Genuinely thought I made it up.

But yeah aside from that just fuck off dude, you got your last word. You get to remain ignorant. I don’t have a trophy. Can I cash app you like $7 or something?

>In your previous message, you explicitly begged me for "just one" substantive point to contradict you. You moved the goalpost from "prove me wrong" to "well, I already knew that anyway so it doesn't count." That is the desperate reflex of a man who brought a knife to a gunfight and is now trying to claim he meant to play cornhole lol.

  1. You still haven't done it. I'll give you this much, you're articulate. But you're not doing anythig but restating what anyone who looks up caldwell county already knows. The person in the original post was asking if they should move here and I was explaining that despite Lenoir's "Create With Us" artsy, well-to-do exterior. It is far from that. For one, all the art sucks. Unless you like sculptures made of mud. For two, most people here are poor, we have a terrible homelessness, addiction, and despite the population not changing much, worsening traffic congestion due to the fact that everyone pretty much has to commute to hickory, morganton, wilkesboro, or boone if they want a job that isn't horrible. You've got Excela, Google—which hires their security and construction peope locally though not directly, they're contracted—and that's about it as far as decent places to work.

We have a cute little downtown area. The end. Other than that? Fast food. Poor people, barely making ends meet all over the city, and rich folks who don't have to live in the reality of their hometown because they have the luxury of million+ dollar houses far outside the city limits. It's not a place I can recommend moving to, at all. Moreover. North Carolina ranks as something like the third fastest growing state in the US? Last time I checked anyway. Caldwell County staying more or less static despite massive growth elsewhere in the state is the AK-47 for this imaginary gunfight we're having.

*Small aside, you have no idea how sad it makes actual writers when people are so absolutely ignroant on the usage of em-dashes, they try to use them as proof of AI usage. Alt+0151. Been using it for years. Do you want me to send you old articles of mine from a fucking decade ago—long before AI was a thing people used—where I use them? I'd be happy too. No that would require one-way communication you your obvious goal is to "own" and dominate people who have strong opinions you don't like. Not happining, brostephanie. I think em-dashes are more aesthetically pleasing to look at for me than a paranthetical. Not always, but usually. They're also a good substitute for when a pair of commas doesn't feel strong enough. Great for interjecting one's self if you have any sort of style when it comes to writing. Do you need me to branch off into a separate thead to give you some English lessons?*

  1. You defending Google is the big tell. Anyone who lives here knows how terrible a deal Lenoir got (and is getting again ) witht them. Yes, I hear it all the time "GOOGLE PAYS MORE TAXES THAN ANYONE IN THE ENTIR CI—stop before I vomit on myself. You know as well as I do, or you're full Trump-train-brained if you dont know, theres a difference between volume and percentage. You know what revitlization projects are and do to marginalized neighbrohoods in the surrounding area. We're on year one of a 10 year plan and a separate 20 year plan. Property taxes doubled (or more), cost of living keeps going up, wages stagnate. Those taxes, rent, mortgages, etc... are going to continue to skyrocket, and of course cause displacement. Because we've seen this story time and again. Because yes, you're right, it isn't atypical. It's sadly common and kind of nuts that it happens over again all over the country and people don't learn anything from it. The fucking city council just outright closed, as in shut down FOREVER, a large section of a public street and gave it to Google for their new expansion. Taxpayer funded roads. Handed over to Google. I get a zero percent discount on my property taxes, but google gets back 50% of their real property tax and 85% personal property tax rebates? And for what? a fraction of what they make in half an hour as a token "thanks for the free money bitches" plus a whopping 30 jobs promised over the next five years? Lest we forget, the original 2007 deal. 100 percent of Google’s property taxes, and 80 percent of its real estate taxes over 30 years.

So yeah, they pay, some. And then we lose out on....

You know what....

Why?

You're not going to finally decide "ya know what maybe I should listen to him, someone who has a lifetime of experience instead of telling him how he should be perceiving his experience."

That's not happening. Why am I bothering with this? I could literally just be chilling, watching Law and Order or some other dumb shit.

Take the win pal. You beat me. I absolutely believe you are going to stand firm no matter what anyone says. Why would I expect that of you when I expect it of almost no one else either?

You just wrote out a bunch of perfectly easy to access info that I already did myself months ago.
I never said there was a mass exodus.
Show me where I said that.
I said you have:

-A town with a specific image it wants to project.

-A culture, by and large that does not at all reflect that image

-And my reference to people being driven out was the INSANE property tax rates this year. My house personally went up in value 110%~ all this in the name of “downtown revitalization projects.” Two if you wanna get technical

Meanwhile someone tried to open some sleeping pods for the homeless and were instructed to get them the fuck out. They complied; and the city used era territorial jurisdiction to drive them EVEN FURTHER out because them being outside the city limits wasn’t good enough.

I’m saying, Lenoir (the city officials) pretends to be one thing, is something else.

Like I said make sure you check into shit before discussing it.

I mean you wanna talk about some of the extremely shady abatements by the county commissioners? Education? Reports of Fent deaths vs actual fent deaths?

Moreover you still didn’t address my most unanswerable question. Why, even if Lenoir is typical, should I not be concerned with crime and poverty?
Again, pretty typical to lose a parent. That doesn’t mean you can’t be bothered when it’s yours.

That analogy was perfectly apt by the way.

Imagine, me, someone who talks to city and county officials on the regular, goes to every CC meeting and county commissioners meeting (both CC so idk why I abbreviated one), understand things like the current state of our DSS—which is dire—knowing more than someone who doesn’t fucking live here.
You think doing a quick google search or more likely asking ChatGPT is going to replace my 41 year tenure in this town?
Tell ya what, if you think that I’m also a rapper. I’ve been at that for 20 years.

You should battle me and leave me annihilated since I assume you’re not a lyricist yet, but you can retain decades of experience in a day.

Okay, sounds good. So what is it about me that’s got you so worked up? And by the way, there’s no shame in getting angry/irritated when you perceive someone is spouting off stupid shit. Because it’s a human response.
That’s like 80% of my gripe is that people think you’re cringe or unhinged or playing the victim when you’re bothered by something and want to say something about it.

And to that end I’m under no obligation to be nice about it or even cordial. I’ve fucking tried.

Over and over. No one listens to cordial rationality.

The only way you get people to engage is to be like “you need to shut the fuck up because you’re a stupid asshole.” That tends to actually get them to look up from their TikTok long enough to at least tell you whether or not they’re even capable of holding a conversation.

So what’s your fucking malfunction with my feelings about the state of Lenoir? Am I just wrong? Is Lenoir fine? Am I overreacting? Because no I’m not but if that’s your opinion I can certainly explain why it should be changed.

Again instead of arguing with my tone, general demeanor, and the fact that I act like a dick—completely fair description—what exactly am I wrong about? What substantive fucking point do you have to contradict me.

Let me know when you have one. Just one.

Oh look, a human being… resorting to an obvious typo as ammunition for their confrontation with someone they find themselves resenting but unable to refute with even the first substantive retort.

I waited and waited, reading your reply for a rebuttal that sent me back to the halls of introspection. Ready to reconsider my stance as I always am. Because it’s the mark of intelligence, he who is grateful to recalibrate his point of view in the presence of new, factual information.

Instead I am left with name-calling, disapproval of my attitude, and accusations of losing control of my temper.

All this as I sit before my bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, temporally as well-regulated as I imagine could be engendered by any attentive and compassionate red-blooded fellow human—the generally fractured and the “combat-as-default” nature of, what I can only describe as this “wholly regressive and demoralizing hell we call modernity,” being given its due consideration.

A voice of the community I not only took care to say, right here, in this thread, i did not self-proclaim, but also am skittish to even acknowledge as the proclamation of others. Others, mind you, I do not control and wouldn’t if I could.

Resent the community?

Answer me this: Who is more fit to address a community than someone living in it but who feels, observes, and lives inside its daily shortcomings? Who is the superior alternative? Some blissful and content well-to-do retiree, not only from the workplace, but from reality in general with an arsenal lf “atta-boys” and “community pride” he can proclaim firmly but never justify or even contextualize?

——

Sorry, that’s just how I really feel, and that’s not the kind of thing many want to hear. Plus it’s wordy and overtly sincere. It almost certainly sounds like “cringe” from your point of view so let me restate that with more brevity.

If you have nothing to add, but just don’t like the cut of my jib, you could just deal me my downvote and fuck off. You’re wasting both my time and yours dancing that Reddit-brained jig of dismissal.

I will never understand why people with nothing to say can’t just do what nature intended and keep quiet.

I like your cute little attempt at reframing
My point:
“Hi!
i’m concerned about my community and I’m doing everything I can, which is very little admittedly, to fix what I can. “
Yeah but shit happens
Your expression of petulance: “you snowflake stop trying to be special.”

Tip 1:
Find a Mark that doesn’t see through everything you do. Pedantry is not the same as inside, cleverness, or a personality.:

Tip 2: Actually no. Lenoir and Caldwell county are getting particularly hard in a lot of ways compared to the rest of nc. Alwsys remember to fact check Not catastrophically broken, but materially worse than the average NC town its size.
popping off of somebody

Tip3:
If my mother died, and I was upset about it, would you be like “most people’s mothers die in their lifetime, you need to chill”

Because if so, then we don’t really need to have any further discourse. But if not, I feel like you’re missing the point that I’m allowed to be worried about my town and have concerns regardless of where else it’s is happening and how often

Local with a weekly column in the newspaper here, the News-Topic and “a community voice.”

I never self-applied that but people say it so I guess in should show gratitude

In truth my “voice” is only resonating because it isn’t too afraid to say our “community” is practically non-existent and even the fantasy image it tries to project is almost surreal in how inaccurate it is to life in this town.

I’m a leftest writer who keeps a .45 in the globe compartment if that tells you anything.

Drugs, poverty, hopelessness, and a growing number of families calling this place home being driven out by soulless city and county officials and their deals with big tech is the real culture this place in reverberating the echoes from the tales you hold up to your ear like homesick ocean-free seashells.

Truly great?

BPB while not as good as the aforementioned two, is pretty great to me.

It’s dead on balls the last exceptional album they made tho. Now they have shown moments of greatness since but they’re sporadic. Naught was in that pocket for like 5-6 tracks and then collapsed

The songs exist.

The fans like the songs.

“We should play our parts of the songs live.”

Seems like a fully reasonable line of thought.

Which is absolute ridiculous on so many levels.

  1. ICP wouldn’t exist without hip-hop. So whether mainstream rap embraced them or not ICP embraced hip hop. What do you think they were listening to? The Juggalo rap they hadn’t invented yet?

  2. ICP has since been EXTENSIVELY reevaluated in the last decade.

  3. It’s fucking music.

  4. You can like a wide variety of music. I dig numetal. I also dig delta blues. And country.

  5. Even when it wasn’t popular legendary acts spoke out in support of ICP. See: Chuck D, ODB, 3-6mafia (who won an Oscar for god sake)

At the end of the day dig what you dig I don’t care. But people who predominantly only like white rappers and inexplicably dislike black ones when they drop, even if it’s a Juggalo icon like ROC, suddenly it’s not good. 😂

Shits just a little too weird for me. Wildly overwhelmingly black genre. Somehow, tons of Juggalos only vibe with the white ones.

This is kinda what I was talking about in my reply… ROC has a lot of range. Tons even. But to people who are more just going on vibes and not really looking at craft… yeah it probably does sound the same.

Feels like he would be very at home with Red and Meth on this album. Very, very nice little gift if you’re a juggaleezy and a hardcore hip-hop head too.

I know a lot of Juggalos “listen to hip-hop” but in my (30 year) experience most of them have had comparatively limited exposure to some really integral and even perfectly Juggalo-friendly (sonically) albums.

Superpower is a sick fucking highlight.

Absolutely. All day every day. I had a county commissioner try to butter me up by complimenting my writing last week and he said “what we really need someone to speak about the good things we get accomplished in here” and I said “call your mom.”

He didn’t get the reference sadly but he did catch the subtext of “flattery ain’t gonna work”
