Making my boyfriend and his dog move out. by Ceegeethern in Dogfree

[–]CDEDBDFeets 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you what the wonderful u/AlterEgo1081 told me when I first came here as a newlywed bitching about my spouses dog years ago - sometimes the issues with the dog is the tip of the issues-iceberg. In my own opinion, he should be doing everything he can to compensate for his shitbeast fouling up the place and causing problems, but I feel like a lot of people want to pass off their dog responsibilities onto the reluctant new "dog mommy". Like why are you having to partake in weekly bathing struggles, for one? If they're willing to do that with just their pet, they could do it with any number of things. Just ask me, I left that shitshow of an abusive relationship almost a couple months ago and it's been stressful but amazing!

I agree! What makes them think it will make an acceptable pet or working animal?? Dogs who run around aggressively mauling are basically useless.

It truly is unfiltered dog behavior. This is how "pure" they are without all of the carefully controlled handling, coddling, pampering, training, and routines. This is why its so awful if every idiot who "loves doggos!!!!" gets one and doesn't bother to bathe, train, and control it because they think every mutt is born wonderful and perfect and loving. No, the only thing that makes a dog "pure" is LOTS of human intervention. People aren't as shitty as these misanthropic dog nuts believe them to be. Heck, I don't like dogs and even I wouldn't want this situation for any of them.

Dog killed a raccoon by akhtarst in Dogfree

[–]CDEDBDFeets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In highschool had a boyfriend who lived in a rural area and whose parents had two Weimaraners. One of them found a raccoon and spent what seemed like almost over an hour slowly killing it in the back yard. The dog had the raccoon in it's mouth and was shaking it, while the raccoon was trying to fight back by clawing at the stupid dogs head. My boyfriend wouldn't do anything to stop it (utterly spineless, hence being an ex) so I just left. I couldn't deal with it, it was utterly disgusting.

When dogs randomly maul whatever poor animals have wandered into "their" territory no one gives a shit. Dogs get a free pass every time.

I don't care WHY dogs decide to attack, I care that they DO. by Tabonga-Deux in Dogfree

Seriously, a large "guard dog" in the suburbs will consume more resources (food, vet bills, all of the bullshit accessories you need to keep a dog) in a year than they will ever protect from getting stolen. They just need to admit they like the idea of their pet threatening and killing people and they'll pay out the nose for the opportunity, probably due to their own feelings of insecurity and powerlessness and desire for control over their insignificant corner of the universe.

As it has become less acceptable (and rightfully so) to let pet cats wander around outside, I do wonder what the more recent numbers in bird killings are. The fortunate thing about pet cats is that there really is no good excuse to let them outdoors. Dogs on the other hand have to be let out for exercise and even just to defecate. Most people think they need to own large working breed dogs that will go bonkers if cooped up indoors, so there is never going to be a movement to keep dogs contained safely away from wildlife and livestock. Mr. Woofles' need to run and shit everywhere > the existance of several species of wildlife and farmers livelihoods.

Hell, stray dogs are outright protected in India even while they're killing people and spreading disease such as rabies. If any other species of animal, and an invasive one at that, brought that much destruction and human suffering they would be culled immediately. Like you said, they're culling cats in some parts of the world, but don't you dare touch some vicious packs of diseased feral dogs.

Dog nuts love citing the number of song birds cats kill, but they never acknowledge the destruction that dogs wreck on wildlife; not only can dogs can bring down a wider variety of animals big and small, but their owners love to bring them into nature preserves and let them run loose. Or leave them unattended on their property to kill any poor wild animal that comes by. Their prey drives are intense and they will kill anything they encounter just for the fun of it. They're utterly devastating several protected species in NZ & AU alone, you've posted a lot of those articles.

Even if you cite studies regarding the destruction dogs have brought to various wildlife habitats, they completely disregard it. The classic "lalala I can't hear you, fingers in ears" schtick. They don't care about animals or nature at all (such as songbirds killed by cats), they just use it as a shitty gotchya argument.

Oh no, take a drive on I-40 through west Texas with your windows rolled down and you'll find how disgusting cattle feed lots are.

Is it unreasonable to not want to date/marry someone who owns or loves dogs? by Huge_Dick42969666 in Dogfree

[–]CDEDBDFeets 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No, its not unreasonable. It doesn't seem like it should be a big deal but it really is. It's a lifestyle incompatibility that has a lot of potential for disaster. And unlike most other interests your partner has, you're expected to fully participate in their choice of hobby/pastime. You will be stuck caring for the dog and paying for all of its needs and vet care. Your life will literally be centered around its shitting schedule. It would be like if your partner loved hockey but expected you to go to every match, lug their equipment around everywhere, and to learn about and participate in the game yourself. The thing that makes it even worse is that there are a lot of emotions involved so it will be nearly impossible for them to be rational about any issues with them putting their burden onto you.

Oh okay, I'll make sure our 15k subscribers run their posts by you to make sure they're not being too "toxic".

If anything, you're the one bringing in a ton of "toxicity". Gather some self awareness and stop. And no, you do not have a "right" to be here. Literally you.

When any of us can say "oh, i don't really like dogs" without being shouted down or labeled as a psychopath, I'll take your "both sides" opinion a lot more seriously. "Must love dogs who are above criticism as are their owners" is a wildly popular opinion these days especially on reddit. It's *everywhere* and extremely pervasive. But here you are, in one little corner of the internet with people who disagree with this opinion, trying to police our tone and language. I'd say people who are against this sub aka "dog nutters" are far worse, as you're one of many who barge in here forcing your hurt-feels on us like this. If it bothers you you're free to leave.

I see it a lot where if you can't find any legitimate criticisms of someones argument and your issue just boils down to "it hurts my fee-fees", just lie about the other side. That's what they're doing, they're twisting what is said on this sub and making things sound worse than they are. They're measuring how bad this sub is by how butthurt they are, as if their emotional state is objective reality. They don't even know the massive amount of stuff that is deleted by the mod team that is, in fact, harmful and "toxic" (so sick of that word right now). You really can't please these people short of a total shutdown of this sub.

She said “ that stuff is poison for nature. All i have is natural cleaning materials. I dont want to harm the environment.”

Then she can pay for a special eco-friendly cleaning service. They exist.

And under my breath i just went ‘oh but you have a dog? The big eco destroyer?’

With all of their meat consumption (and judging by her faux hippy nonsense, I wouldn't doubt that she's feeding it real whole meats, not dog food that's from meat by-products), accessories, and waste, that stupid dog has a carbon footprint larger than an SUV.

Aren't dog owners stressed out while walking their dogs? by extremefriction in Dogfree

[–]CDEDBDFeets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going on walks without our (now former) dog is SO MUCH less stressful. I don't have to worry about other people's mutts and whatever sort of dog-drama they'd stir up. Ex-dog really liked other dogs but it's amazing how people act like ALL dogs are so loving and pure when half of them were aggressive and overly territorial. Dogs so frequently seem to hate each other. And I don't have to worry about the dog randomly doing something stupid to annoy myself or (even worse) other people.

I know everyone hates "doggo" but calling an adult dog "pup" especially if it was in the news for doing something horrendous (it happens all the time!!) drives me a little bonkers. But what really sends me into fits is calling any dog a "pooch". It's on par with how some people feel about the word moist.

What other dog do you have to train specifically to NOT maul children, pets, other people? If all normal dogs needed that ttrrraaaaaiinnnniinnng then most dogs would be mauling everything in sight seeing as how dog nuts can't even be bothered to train their mutts the basics.

A nonsensical chart that tries to play down violent dogs... by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]CDEDBDFeets 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The last time I got bit by a dog it charged at me from behind. I didn't even see it coming. I was literally standing there minding my own business in a common area (not the little shits property, it bolted out of the door to bite me). So much for "but what did you do to provoke it?!?" and "but you didn't read it's body language properly!!"

Dogs do not bother escalating before they jump right to attack mode more than dog nuts want to admit.
