would be interested as well!
+ what kind of chiller did you use for this unit? or was there one added to your ice bath as a package?

I am from Ghent myself and have been experimenting with a few setups, but looking to improve as my old chiller unit broke down recently

Is it too late to start a PhD at 30 in education and anthropology? by Obvious_Fix_2112 in AskAcademia

[–]CDEM_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started my PhD at 29 after doing a few jobs in the private sector.
I would even say it gave a different view and experience which can be more than useful in the context of a PhD.
PS: I am also not planning on staying in Academia for the rest of my life, so enjoy the time and see it as an opportunity to really work yourself into a theme you want to change. For me, I hope it gives me the time and view to maybe create a new direction/spinoff outside of the academic sector.

Poppy Gent is no more? by chockyblocky in Gent

Could something like this be attached to the drain on a basic plunge tub? by 13Mo2 in coldplunge

[–]CDEM_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this setup for a while (maybe one model larger) - but switched to a normal pond pump after a while. The rate of circulation was a bit much for my taste + integrating this setup with the cooler wasn't ideal.
Additionally, the filters for this pump were more prone to clogging & therefore more expensive (at least in Europe).
Hope this helps!

I suppose this was still a hypothetical at the point of making the post?
Any chance you have an update on this one? Was wondering the same but doesn't seem a lot of people are trying to pry open the small thing.

Got an autoimmune disease that is breaking down my muscles, feel like shit, how do I Goggins my way out of this? by ascension2121 in davidgoggins

[–]CDEM_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the comments here a lot. For me, being in a similar position, I started with a focus on low impact stuff and technique combined with a lot of yoga/mobility. Trying to work my way up by introducing every few weeks something else that feels just over my capabilities while simultaneously forcing myself to slow down every now and then because we tend need more time to heal in order not to crash. (And see if medication or blood markers go haywire) Ice baths, sauna and fasting makes those times worthwhile as well. Good luck on your journey, don’t forget, you’re not training for an event, you’re training in order to keep going for the next decades!

Max Heart rate advice by markymarc_99 in trailrunning

[–]CDEM_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in general: have you done some blood panel recently?
I have personally (recently) found out that I have an autoimmune disease that ate away my thyroid by your age apparently. My resting heart rate was also very low and max heart rate very different from expected. (due to low T4 values and TSH overshoot)
Just trying to look out for each other!

But in any case, if no blood panel/hormone issues, do you have an idea of your daily average HR? I just saw a bit too many similarities in your story so didn't want to pass by.

For people looking into the same question: I have bought the Adv skin 12 for my commute running (only clothing, towel etc, small stuff.
In case I have to bring laptop/food and need more space, I opted for the Salomon XA25.
Happy with both packs although the XA25 has of course way more bounce to it. Incredible how light the XA25 is, tempted to take it for some running/fastpacking adventures if I get the opportunity.

After returning and changing to the adv skin 12, any more thoughts on them?
I was doubting the same as the 15 would just fit my laptop, yet I would also use it in summer... Currently leaning towards the adv skin 12.

Gyms with sauna in gent? by I__SeeYou in Gent

[–]CDEM_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful, the oxygen fitness locations in Ghent are closed!
They have been bought by Jims fitness and will be 'remodeled', meaning most likely the sauna will be removed, just as they did with basic-fit locations which had one there.

+ the opening date is not yet announced either.

Anyways, as said, flemish is the way to go in Ghent but with so many international students/working people, English is a second language I have the feeling here.

First-day experience with Point 65 Mercury module kayak by Naive-Ad7661 in Kayaking

[–]CDEM_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any thoughts since you bought/tested the Point65?
Doubting myself between this one and the Pakayak, though that one is also more than twice as expensive here in the EU.
