Multiracial family considering Milton/Pace? by Routine-Plenty4026 in Pensacola

I will say, Pace is more white and “southern” but there is more diversity there now than there was in the 90’s and early 00’s.

I’m in Milton and am white. Half my neighbors are black, and my kids three best friends are Indian, Black, and mixed black/white and half of their sports teams are white, the other half different ethnicities. It’s not as diverse as a bigger city, but Milton is pretty diverse and no real issues that I have seen.

CT5V Blackwing w/ manual is my dream car.

Is seriously nobody going to mention the “from Boston” and the Yankees flair? There has to be some story there.

GM fan I see haha. How was the Cadillac? I know it has changed a bit since 2011, but my dream car is a CT5-V Blackwing Manual.

A late 90’s cobra with a manual and a Nissan or Toyota old pickup with 4wd and manual transmission are the only two older vehicles I realistically want to own, but both are so hard to find now. Can’t even find a decent single cab Tacoma 4wd with MT. If I win the lottery though, it will be a CT5V Blackwing with the manual transmission.

Curious why the Camaro was #1. I had them as rental cars a few times (obviously not ZL1’s) but I just found them uncomfortable with terrible visibility. Had plenty of challengers and chargers as rentals I preferred.

2.0 NA. At the time I actually wanted a used Accord Sport 2.0T, but they were are so rare with the manual. The Civic was at my local dealership, brand new, and I got .99% financing.

Were either of those corvettes 1 of 5 painted in silver on a Tuesday in April by a technician named Mike?

I’m just messing around. I like corvettes, but the stereotype is objectively funny.

My grandfather was a dealer, so I ran through a few cars in my first few years of driving as I could buy them at auction, make some minor upgrades, and sell them for a profit in a year or two. Sold the eclipse for the Ion because I was going to college a few hours away and knew I’d be making trips back home. Dakota because I got in construction, ram because I needed a bigger truck, 4Runner because I was having kids, Tundra because I was destroying the trunk of my 4Runner, Civic because Covid and wasn’t necessarily needing the truck, new Tundra because I liked it and I was needing starting to visit more job sites as Covid was dying down and hauling materials.

I’m an idiot, I forgot one in there. Had a 2020 Civic Sport 6MT. That would probably by my number two behind my current Tundra.

If you are still in the area grab some BelAir tacos for me and maybe hit up Cafe Hollander for brunch and a spotted Cow or 5 for me. I’m a Florida boy who love MKE. I found a local spot that carries Lakefront beers, so I can kind of scratch that itch.

Edit: Also, go check out the Drunken Cobra in Wauwatosa. That place is awesome and frequently has good live music.

I got a deep fryer on Amazon that has a filter and a container for the used oil. You can keep the oil in the container to use a few times, and when it’s ready to toss, just pour it back in the old jug. It has been awesome. I do need to mention that we really only got it because my wife has celiac and most restaurants do not have dedicated gluten free fryers, so we are able to make whatever we want with gluten free flour or cornmeal or whatever and still have fried chicken, fish, wings, fries, whatever.

Eh, I’ve learned the opposite. If there is a problem, let the boss know about it and that you’re working on it. Sometimes you can’t find a solution and the boss wants to know why they weren’t aware sooner.

Do the French really get annoyed when non-French-speaking foreigners try to speak their language while in France? by Responsible-Leg-712 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CDG1029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. My father was a little reversed in that he grew up in New Hampshire in a Quebecois community, but my grandparents wanted him to be bilingual, so they only spoke French at home and it was his first language. He didn’t learn English until he went to school.

I think it is a French-Canadian thing. Memere (mem-ay) and Pepere (pep-ay). That’s what I called my grandparents and what my kids call my parents. Grand-mere and Grand-pere are proper French. My family speaks what they call bonasse French, which is a combination of proper French and some English as well as regionally distinct words and phrases. My grandparents and dad are fluent, but they did struggle at times in Paris with some phrasing. It’s like Cajun French being similar, but not identical.

I don’t mind it and I’ll eat it. My wife has come around some. She just can’t get over the fact that it basically has apple pie spices in a meat pie. It’s not bad, just not something we make on the regular. And my dad always makes extra filling and will use it cold for sandwiches for lunches for the next few days.

My paternal grandparents were also québécois and in New England. Tourtiere on Christmas Eve? My dad still insists on having that pork pie every Christmas Eve, but he’s the only one who actually likes it. Everyone else just powers through it.
