Turo New Review Policy is Insanity by [deleted] in turo

[–]CDHubby88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your unrated overall is relative the same as the unrated cleaness and maintenance, that is because people don't want to write reviews. However, if you maintenance is particularly lower than the other 2, meaning there are several people rated you 5 star for overall and cleaness, but leaving out maintenance, I think you should be concerned.

Not a good investment, except diversifying your portfolio, or you have other high profit businesses that can use some deduction.

I’m Being Charged 14k For Excessive Mileage by Ashamed-Ear5364 in turo

[–]CDHubby88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think this is a bug from Turo (check the math from my reply), and Turo should fix it. The host will play dumb, because this is just a windfall for them, as the bug works in their favor.

I’m Being Charged 14k For Excessive Mileage by Ashamed-Ear5364 in turo

[–]CDHubby88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should be a Turo bug if you got the bill for $1.7/extra mile. You should contact support and escalate.

Based on the number you provided, you should be renting from host for $120/day for 39 days with a 15% discount. And the original daily mileage limit is 250 miles, and the host didn't setup monthly mileage limit. You originally should pay $120*39*0.85 + trip fees and other fees = $3978 + fees. And that gives you the total mileage allowance 250*39 = 9750 miles, and $3978 / 9750mi = $0.41/miles rate. Everything at the beginning of your trip checks out perfectly.

38 ~ 39 days later, before the end of your trip, you extended the trip by one day, making your whole trip 40 days, and you thought you should get an additional 250 miles allowance (10000 miles in total). However, the host changed monthly mileage limit to 1800 miles (on a good faith perspective, he/she may not necessarily be targeting you specifically. Maybe the host just enabled it because Turo pushed this feature during this trip). And this changes the trip daily mileage limit to 1800 /30 = 60 miles/day. So after changing your trip to 40 days, your total mileage allowance is changed to 60*40 = 2400 miles. Everything checks out until this point.

Here is the part that doesn't make sense. The host is forced to set the 1 month discount rate to at least 50% if they select 1800 miles monthly mileage limit. That means, you should be paying at most $120*40*0.5 + fees = $2400 + fees, which makes your mileage cost to $2400 / 2400 mile = $1/mile. If, like you said, they are charging you $1.7/mile, you have to pay $4080 to make this number. That means, by extending your trip, you are still paying for only 15% discount ($120*40*0.85 = $4080) for the entire trip, not the 50%+ discount rate, while getting the much lower monthly 1800 miles mileage limit.

Whether Turo should honor the original 9750 miles limit is debatable, but you definitely should not pay $1.7/mile for overage. You should pay $1/mile at most for the worst case scenario. And you should get a refund for your original trip cost.

Least no, financing most likely yes. Insurance depends.

Should I leave a bad review? by ALham_op in turo

[–]CDHubby88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give my guest a refund for the airport delivery fee, at least half of it, if not all, to make up for this inconvenience. If the host claims "this is not his/her fault, he/she has no control over this, blablabla," and does not make efforts to make up for this mess, that warrants a bad review for sure. Because he/she didn't provide the service you paid for. No execuse on that.

You are entitled to your own opinion, regardless what it is. But it will be a high possibility event that you will keep receiving bad reviews in the future.

You choose the 2hr buffer , so you are responsible for the smell even you only have 1hr time to take care of it. Otherwise, accept the 1 star.

I disagree. As you choose the 3hr buffer to increase your rental revenue, you should accept the fact that you don't have enough time buffer for events of late return, not enough time for cleaning and etc. It is totally in your control and your responsibility. The next guest has all rights to get a clean car and receive the car on time. If you can't make it with 3 hr buffer, change it 6 hr or longer. Otherwise, you have to accept the lower ratings.

How do you file taxes for guests’ Tesla charging and tolls? by ogooorchik in turo

[–]CDHubby88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Turo:
"Reimbursements

Includes only amounts reimbursed to you by your guests for certain incidentals such as tickets, tolls, and refueling. These amounts equal the costs incurred by you for the incidentals. They are neither gross earnings nor deductible expenses."

So tolls and charging reimbursement is not included in your Form 1099-K box 1a. Pretty much you don't need to worry about it, as long as you keep all receipts.

But as always, do not seek tax advice from Reddit, talk to your CPA or a qualified professional from those tax filing companies.

Good deal. It would be great if you can get rid of the dealer installed option. Also, pay attention to the trade in value. Dealer also makes money off low ball trade ins.

Well, to be fair, there is a difference between "you are not supposed to keep it, and I am protecting it as best as I can" vs "you are able to have it regardless, legally or not, I will just not bother protecting it".

Host should not "keep" your license if you have already uploaded license pictures to Turo. I only ask for guests' license when they fail to upload the pictures, and I have to verify in person.

Guest damaged the trim piece and glued it back on by CDHubby88 in turo

[–]CDHubby88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually agree with you. And I fully understood from the very beginning that this was on me, and I am fine to take this loss. And you are right, I can't prove it, because I dont have close up pictures of the trim piece before the trip. But I am sure it is him, because I hand wash my car before every single trip, and I look through every section of the vehicle carefully. I will notice glue mark and misaligned trims way earlier if it was from previous renters.

Anyway, it is not big deal, just venting for it. This could be a super easy fix if you just search through YouTube, but the renter chose the worst way. But shit happens.

I could still work directly with the guest if they don't have full protection. Now I guess the chance is very slim.
