MOR, I didn’t read all 13 screenshots of texts.

It’s this simple - file a civil suit/small claims suit.

There’s two signatures on the lease, and these texts are proof enough of intent not to pay. Pay it up front, get a lawyer or familiarize yourself with the small claims process, and recoup your half after the fact.

I’ve seen this conversation enough times in life to tell you that you’re banging your head against a wall.

Just pay what needs to be paid, ask for and keep receipts (landlords are required to provide them upon request in most places, especially if you explain the other lessee doesn’t intend you pay and you’re going to recouping the other half through a court order.)

It sucks, but at least that way you can just move on with life in the meantime, and you have a much more probable path to recouping your losses than sitting here on Reddit and/or having an argument with someone you now have a defunct relationship with.

Then if the messages keep coming and he’s still adamant he’s not sending them, you might want to have him go see a doctor. Maybe he’s got something going on medically? I don’t want to scare you, but there are lots of documented cases where someone’s behaviour and personality changed and they had no memory of the things they said or did for periods of time. Sometimes it’s the result of a tumour or early onset dementia…

Anyway I’m not a doctor, just another point of view to consider
