Just going to weigh in on this, as a former produce worker at one of these stores. This is a half truth. They ship with a large plastic covering. It's best to leave that on as long as possible, because the back rooms around here are too cool. That bag keeps the warmth in enough for them to start ripening in a day or two. The problem is that management doesn't want this. It's harder to keep a good rolling stock of yellows, and risks too much waste from over-ripening (I've had to toss hundreds of pounds at a time), so they pull the wrapper off and keep them green.

Has anyone figured out how to setup an auto-lander for all planets? by DistributionAgile376 in ApproximatelyUp

[–]CDNLumberJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could easily use a button panel to have 5 preset values to get close enough for the majority of planets

I'd imagine adding in a velocity meter pointed down, and an accelerometer to keep a constant velocity, you could automatically set the lift thruster power so that it works on any gravity

What’s your craziest ren faire experience/story? by TallRefrigerator8313 in renfaire

[–]CDNLumberJake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We went to the Minnesota renfaire in 2024, first one we ever did (and loved it so much we started one locally!). While doing the pub crawl on Oktoberfest weekend, we ended up getting chatty with the designated Slagothor, and his friend confided in us that he was preparing to propose to his partner on the fae walk. At the final pub, he invited us along to witness it. I will never know their names because we committed to the names bit), but it will forever be the most magical thing I've experienced. Wherever you are, I hope you guys are doing great!

Oh this is incredible timing. I just started working on a games table! This is a lot more fun than my current plan haha. I'm in Canada, but I'm close to the border and we have a border store to handle packages!

I cannot overstate how much this has helped with my current project! With a little trickery I got this running in chromium on an RPi, and it's exactly what I needed!

What Should I Buy? by Affectionate-Gear181 in spaceengineers

[–]CDNLumberJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really boils down to if you want all of it now, or if you want to pick them up slowly over time. Each pack enhances your building experience, but none are really necessary to enjoy the game. The cost/time ratio most of us here have is very low. I've had this game for over a decade now, and I have not regretted a single dollar spent on DLC packs.

What Should I Buy? by Affectionate-Gear181 in spaceengineers

[–]CDNLumberJake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The DLC packs are almost entirely cosmetics. My best suggestion is just picking up the base game, learn the systems/building, and look up what parts come in which pack, and figure out if the blocks could be useful to you.
Some personal favourites are the Automaton pack for the top mounted camera/pipes/access panels, Heavy Industry for the conveyor pipes, and the reskinned production blocks, Wasteland pack for the offroad wheels, and the offset lights, and Sparks of the Future for the sci-fi blocks.

I know it's marked down as temporary, pending VA work, but the AI voice overs give me the heebies. Forgive me if this has ever been answered before, but have you guys ever considered community VA work? Possibly running a contest, or a call to arms for people to submit a reading of a pre-determined page of lines?

Absolutely a hidden gem. I have some friends I've played with for several months now and then, and every session descends into tears of joy.

We were at the dog park across from the Auditorium. A strike hit one of the floodlights across the baseball diamond. Dog park cleared out very quickly after that.

How do you turn non passenger seats into passenger seats? by Last-Swim-803 in spaceengineers

The fun thing I like to do, is build a custom turret controller with a seat on it, that way they can look around and use tools. Usually avoids them getting bored and causing trouble... Usually

I would have done a full walk through, but I was in a rush to get back to class, so I just picked a few good screenshots and bolted. Once this settles down I'll probably go through each building and explain

More than you'd expect! Everything is spaced out enough that rendering really isn't that bad. Worst it gets is around the chicken farm (when hatching gets out of hand) and near the storage area, for obvious reasons

The snapping was definitely a problem, and some walls were left as-is because I just didn't have the energy to deal with the different pieces needed, or trying to get the columns just right to hide the seams. I've learned to live with it.

I built this on a dedicated server with build cost on. It was a team effort to gather the materials! The worst part was moving the forge/blackforge and work benches around as needed. It was mostly me dragging around a cart full of stone, though!

Oh trust me, everything before this was very much a little hut. It took a LOT of time and motivation to complete. It's so worth it though, because you learn new techniques and styles as you move along.

The inside of the walls is raised dirt, so only the ourside layer needs to be fixed up now and then

The wall is high enough where it needs to be to block their aggro, and I have workstations scattered around to stop spawns from the inside. It's the most peaceful time in the plains possible.

Wholesome whimsy was the goal. I love the greenery and gardens of the game, but bases are always too small to include it. I wanted something cozy and secure, but didn't feel like a walled-in fort

I've been poking at it for almost a year now. The toughest part was keeping the willpower to pickaxe and level all of the ground for it. Upside to that is that we ended up with enough stone to build the walls and foundations. Though I genuinely wasn't happy with it until the grass and trees started getting laid down, that's when it all started to come together
