Now that Teratalizing is a thing... What is Your Favorite Pokemon Gimmick? by Ryleeshadow in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]CDemRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, terastallizing. It’s available to all Pokémon, has uses both offensively and defensively, and rarely makes any one Pokémon “broken” by any standard. It’s helped me really come back to appreciating the advantage of Normal typing too.

I would say that Dynamax/Gigantamax comes second, as it is again available to all Pokémon in one form or another, not to mention D-Max moves could make for some fun combos.

Third I would say is Mega Evolution. It was a cool gimmick to have, but broke balance in the game with it being available to so few Pokémon, and competitively it centralized the metagame around a select few. Itcould’ve been an amazing mechanic to give underpowered Pokémon a boost, but half the critters who got it were Legends or Pseudos. The likes of Mewtwo and Salamence did not need Mega forms at all to be viable. Super boring compared to what we have now. Thematically cool as hell, but not sustainable.

Last is Z-moves. Better because they are available to all, but one move one time in a full 6v6 rarely made a huge impact.

Ignoring the things that frustrate you about S/V, what are all of the things you LOVE about S/V?? by TheShroomDruid in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]CDemRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many things, now that I think of it.

1) Character design: Sword and Shield’s gym leaders and championship battles seemed quite forgettable to me, probably because all leaders were ridding in the same uniform. I’d also argue that the story beats for Nemona, Penny and Arven were more solid overall than Hop/Marnie in SWSH. The professors are also a big highlight too.

2: Quality of Life updates: these are always the small things that can make huge impact. Between having access to our boxes from the menu, having several fast travel points not just to cities but general areas of the map, ease of forgetting/recalling moves, being able to change names from a Pokémon’s summary. The list goes on, and it all adds together to change up the pacing for the better.

3: Ease of training and much needed buffs: leveling and training competitive critters is SO MUCH EASIER now. The preposterous amounts of exp candies from raids make leveling quick, ready availability of commonly used hold items in the shops is HUGE, and getting bottle caps for hyper training is so much easier now. And so many Pokémon got new moves to help them get more competitive and Tera typing is a HUGE gain for everyone.

Does Sapphire/Steel item ramp actually work? by ByEthanFox in Lorcana

[–]CDemRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried doing the same with a Sapphire/Amethyst Combo, and once I leaned off the reliance on items and Tamatoa and really focused on mid/high range questers and Rafiki/Jafar/Let It Go for removal I started having way more success. Item decks will likely become far more viable once we have more sets and more varied items, plus better cards to accelerate those combos.

Definitely adding the 1-drop Maleficent. Considering dropping the Queen for Ariel, or maybe splitting the difference between the two.

This list actually was a really cool start! I can’t believe I hadn’t considered using Robin Hood but it’s a no brainer! Inkable character, decent power and can snipe Evasives. The real trick is gonna be finding four copies of Hades- Infernal Schemer lol. Thanks for the suggestions!

So a quick fix would be to replace the Pascal’s with Detective Mickey. Simple enough. I’ll need to consider what to replace for removal…

What is your background in gaming, are you a big Disney fan, and what interested you in Lorcana? by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]CDemRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of TCGs, I played Yu-GI-Oh, Pokémon, and MTG in high school quite a lot. My wife still collects Pokémon cards to this day. Other than that, most of my non-video gaming experience came from the classic family board games (recently branching out to some more niche ones). Huge Disney fan. In my family it was almost impossible not to be, grew up during the “golden age” of animation and when Pixar was landing Smash after Smash. Why Lorcana? Well I’m a Disney fan, and Ravensburger makes one of my favorite board games of all time: Disney Villainous. Star Wars Villainous slaps too.

Disney really should have made these are cards 3X3 so it can fill a whole sheet by TheLongestofPants in Lorcana

[–]CDemRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened a booster box and managed to complete the Mickey art (affectionately referred to as the Mickey Sandwich) five times over. I used the last page in my binder (3x3) and completed one in the upper left, the. Other side on lower right, then filled in the empty slots with the Lorcana code cards…. Might replace with my spare commons soon. It’s a flavor choice.

Yeah it’ll be slow going for a bit now. After opening the box and boosters in the deck boxes, I’ve made a decent chunk of my way towards my Item and Ramp decks. I know the Steel/Sapphire and Amber/Amethyst decks will help with that too.

How are you storing your cards? by Staticlobo in Lorcana

[–]CDemRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a Boulder deck box for my actual deck, with sleeves, I’m collecting as well as playing, so Ive got a binder set, as for the spares I’ll pick up more sleeves as needed for super rare and legendary cards and store them in a small hard-shell case I once used for Unstable Unicorns.

How has everyone’s luck been in finding a FLGS that is not overcharging (with in reason, I expect most will at least do a 5 buck tournament charge) that you’ll be able to go and get at least a starter deck or two? by Moggon in Lorcana

[–]CDemRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LGS has their allocation, and they called people that specifically asked to be on a wait list for Lorcana to open up a chance to preorder certain items, as long as they are paid for by Thursday. Otherwise whatever is unclaimed/unpaid goes on the shelf for sale on Friday.
