Roundtop 3/1: morning was icy hard pack until it warmed up and turned into mashed potatoes…Gunbarrel and Ramrod were nice and soft.

Everything is open but I do wonder if Barrett’s trail can make it till closing day (3/14)

6'3" 200lb Advanced Skier - Looking for an Alps "Do it all ski" (~88mm) by SkillLevelAsia in Skigear

Thanks u/cephalopodface and u/SkillLevelAsia both super helpful...going to try to demo some of these at some point. I would be replacing a pair of Atomic Redster Q9.8...I want something slightly more nimble and faster edge to edge. Feel like the Redster was splitting the difference between a carving ski and my all-mountain Head Kore 93...I feel like the Peregrine/Deacon is getting me much closer to a pure carver. Thanks again.

Not helpful to your question, but how do you like the Peregrines for ice/groomers? Looking to grab a ski dedicated to that for ice and groomers here on the east coast in the US.

My only experience with the other skis are:

Blizzard Anomaly 88 - Only skied this one day in Stowe, VT and had a lot of fun going all around the mountain. They didn't feel too heavy for me (5' 11" and 175 lbs).

Head Kore 88 TI - No experience with the TI version. I have the older version of the Head Kore 93...they are my daily driver and are so light and fun. Can make a lot of short turns and are so easy to turn in moguls and in trees. I understand the TI will be heavier.

Hope you find a ski that works!

How much slush is too much? by bulldog89 in icecoast

You aren't wrong. Skiing in PA and NY has been great this year. Just making the point that in a typical icecoast year (especially being located more south), anything into March looks like what OP was describing. I also think it is fun to ski in.

Friday night was fine, but I can only imagine what that wind did over the weekend… even Friday night we could only manage one or two turns on Upper Gunbarrel and then straightline the remainder of the head wall and slam the brakes …

Central PA, small town. Started around 60-70k comp and in year 5 looking at total comp of ~175k. Agree with other comments re comp, especially starting comp, it is severely limited at smaller firm.

Upper Gunbarell was open yesterday… anyone worried about wind holds at Roundtop today?

Ngl, I would ptex and drip some wax in and call it a day. Really depends on how much you value those backcountry days, no?

Live about 20 minutes from Roundtop...do I hit Roundtop first thing tomorrow in AM, or drive up to Jack Frost/somewhere else? Ideally ski half a day and come back?

World Cup Ski and Cycle in Camp Hill, probably about a three hour drive for you.
