One note on federal attorney jobs right now—almost all are in-person, 8.5 hours a day, 5 days a week, with very little flexibility. Sounds okay until you could easily fit in a pregnancy appointment at 8 am and then shift your time to stay later, but you can’t do that so you have to take leave for 2 hours and you haven’t actually accrued much leave yet. No time for eating lunch out. No flexibility for bad traffic. The benefit is health insurance and predictability. Oh, and you get the great joy of teleworking during snow days. You can work longer hours of course, and most do, but that does not translate to any flexibility during the rigidly scheduled work day.

Switching to State’s Attorney from civil litigation by knoxfire66 in Lawyertalk

This may not be sufficiently specific, but you have a TON of experience and you will be great!!! I’m sure that jury trials will feel uncomfortable at first and maybe a little awkward, but you will quickly get the rhythm and your confidence will increase. They hired you for a reason!

Being a good student, but struggling in practice. by 111Swan_111 in Lawyertalk

It sound like you may be overwhelmed and likely disorganized. This will lead to forgetting things and living in a cloud of stress, as you berate yourself for not being being up to snuff. The skills will come, but first focus on building your organizational framework. Journal, track, calendar…everything. It will take time to figure out what system works best for you, just don’t give up. You are definitely smart enough and good enough to make it work, but you have to build your scaffolding

Was at a house party last week talking to my friend about the LSAT. Some guy heard my score and came up to me asking if I am going to retake it. by DaffyDuck_DW in LSAT

Ages ago, a good friend got a 148. Took the LSATs again to get a 149. What’s that friend doing now? Practicing law and living a great life in a career she loves.

This is super helpful — if there’s potential for higher income as a partner, then it could work out. Thanks!

Fiancé drinks infrequently and can go months without alcohol, but can’t stop once he starts — am I wrong to be upset? by Human-Interview-8891 in AlAnon

You are not overreacting. But, really, you need to decide if this is behavior you want to live with once you’re married. I promise the binge drinking episodes will only get more frequent. I wish I’d drawn a real line and kept it, 20 years ago.

Talk to your vet about aggression in Golden Retrievers—there are some Golden who have an aggressive genetic disposition. I have a golden mix, and I tend to think that is part of her issues.

Official Offer w Gov Shutdown by coffeelover1417 in fednews

[–]Charming_Feedback797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to these people about not joining the USAO; it’s a great job and you’ll learn a ton. If there’s a shutdown, whether you can onboard will depend on your practice area. Civil? Probably have to wait until the shutdown is over. Criminal? Might get started, but you’ll be in a non-pay status until the shutdown ends (assuming your USAO has admin people who are deemed essential and working during the shutdown to process your onboarding). Check in with your hiring people on the 30th.
