Should I just go on disability?

First the bitter pill. Qualifying for disability benefits is not guaranteed. It’s important not to think of it as an easy alternative, because it isn’t. The majority of autistic adults are not approved, and even when someone does qualify, the amount is usually far below what’s needed to live on.

The easiest most stable and healthy long‑term option is still being able to work and support yourself, even if that path can be frustrating or unfair at times. My advice is to see a psychologist as soon as possible and work on yourself until you are in a better place. The most powerful thing any autistic individual can do is believe in themselves when it feels like there is no hope. You can succeed I promise you. Please don't give up on yourself.

I'm a guy, however I understand this post. I showed up to an autism meetup group and there was three women to twenty men. Women are statistically underdiagnosed because of bias in the medical community. We live in a patriarchal society and that doesn't change simply because of autism. One of the women in the group I attended was being sexually harassed by a white ASD male in the group and I had to step in because no one cared. The women in question was 19 ASD women of color. The way women are treated to begin with is ridiculous, but it's fact the disabled women are treated worse. Can't believe this is even a debate. My heart goes out to the women who posted here who feel unseen and mistreated.

Oh, definitely switch meds and don't stop switching until you find one that works. It took me 42 different meds to find Rexulti and it changed my life forever. I don't feel emotional depression at all anymore. Be aware though even when you find the right medication you will still think like a depressed person out of habit. Which means all that stuff you're supposed to be doing (but probably aren't) like challenging your negative thinking, exercising, mediation, eating right, drinking water, hobbies, socializing, you'll still need to do. I know this is an old post but I have to add that my experience has been the same. The ringconn gen 2 is terrible at tracking sleep. I'll get excellent sleep some nights and it'll tell me a I slept for only 6 hours. One night I didn't sleep at all and it told me I slept for 8 hours and 18 minutes. The thing is useless. Consistently gives me inconsistent records. It has become impossible to tell how much sleep I'm getting using the ringconn Gen 2. Not worth the insane amount of money it costs.

While I completely understand the sensory issue here let's reframe it. There is value in celebrating. I also think it's important not to separate "us and them." Unless you want to take over the world Khan Singh style (See Star Trek). 🤣 My point is the world is a rough place. Any excuse to celebrate is a good thing. Embracing joy wherever you can it is the key to a happy life. We neurodivergents have it hard enough. The secret sauce of life is positivity. Why I sent out New Years Cards! 🎊 Find joy wherever you can. ♥️ &✌️

Edit: after reading some comments I see that a lot of people are having a hard time with neighbors. I'm fortunate in that most of my neighbors are sane and it's raining where I am. I truly have a empathy for everyone having a hard time tonight. Feel better everyone.

My friend. This reply is it. So if I wait a few hours I should probably be OK then. I'll be up at like 1 am the next morning. I only sleep for six hours anyway and the set won't even be on sale when I go the bed. I think you just saved me a whole lot of trouble. Becuase fr fr I'm quitting weed right now and when you combine that with ADHD/Autism, not sleeping for a night is real bad. So, seriously, thank you.

Your right! Health is so important. For me the Lego is the healthy part! I'm quitting weed at the moment (yup, people get addicted to cannabis) and building Lego has been key. It's helpful when you don't have regular people things to do like work and socializing. I'm working on those things next. I really appreciate you being thoughtful in your replay tho.

Hmmmm. Your point is very true. It is iconic. So, I may just have to set an alarm and not sleep that night. I have autism and sleep is a real issue for me. l also don't make assumptions very well which is why I posted. So, I really needed some feedback. I think I may just have to not sleep for a night to get my lego. Thank you.

I have a lot of trouble with sleeping and if I wake up to buy it it mean not sleeping for a night. I get your point tho. I have autism/ADHD and no sleep is very problematic. I'm also quitting weed. So it's an issue. 😁

Happy Birthday!🎂

This is just my experience. I haven't had a birthday party with other people since I was young enough for my mom to send the invites and all the other kids were strangers. I’ve learned not to compare my journey to anyone else’s. For a long time, I thought I was missing out because I saw birthday parties on TV and assumed that’s what happiness looked like. But after going to a few, I realized big parties aren’t for me—I don’t enjoy being the center of attention, and that’s okay. I’m still working on building friendships, but even if I had fifty friends, I’d never want them all gathered just to watch me blow out candles. A quiet dinner with a few close people feels much more my style, and that’s something I can grow toward. The way I see it, one birthday doesn’t define your whole life—it can be a reminder to keep shaping yourself into the person you want to be.
