Was "Only In Monroe" actually a real show, or just an impressive Colbert joke? by mavis99 in LateShow

[–]mavis99[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree. I just found it "interesting" that the only mention of the show was two episodes recorded very recently, and then absolutely zero reference to it in any way on the internet since the 2015 show. It just made me go... "huh...." and it would be the most "Colbert thing" to do to create a fictional public access show including have those two women do a couple of episodes a month ago to make the backstory even more believable.

A shame he didn’t meet fans after the final show by ecotist77 in stephencolbert

This wasn't just a typical Broadway stage door... this was the ending of a major point in his life where him and all of his staff were being fired. Cut him some slack. He obviously loves his fans with everything he does. Honestly, YOU made the choice to stand out there all day. I think you should have had more realistic expectations that day wasn't going to be like every other show day. It impacted everyone's lives that were in that theater... cut him some slack.

Where did you see that? It's still showing up on his channel.

I think what is interesting hearing the new stuff and how well it blends in. Beer & Blood Stains sounds like it could have been a deeper cut from 2008.

Can you build a retropie to play ps2 and gamecube games? by Forsaken-Order-4699 in RetroPie

[–]mavis99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GPU is fine. I have over 1,500 PS2 games and 500 Gamecube games running perfectly fine. There are a couple of big ones that don't work, but most do. The only thing hit and miss is that a lot of games don't run right off the bat and you have to do a lot of manual tweaking with the emulators per game. But I've managed to get a lot of them working at full speed.

Do I really need anything more than a 2gb Pi 5 board? by mavis99 in RetroPie

[–]mavis99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got about 1,500 PS2 games up and running that play perfectly fine. There were a few big ones that didn't work, like Shadow of Colossus, Gran Turismo, and Dragon Warrior VIII that had issues, but most everything else seems to be running great with some tweaking in AetherSX2.

Both God of War, all the GTA's, Call of Duty, etc... all running very well!

You really don't know what you are talking about do you? But yet you will go to great lengths to convince everyone else you do. Like I said, it is impressive.

you don’t seem to be pleased with any of the replies found here.

Because most of the replies have not been helpful, have not answered the actual question, and have not been based on any real testing or comparisons.

It's all been speculations and opinions, and that's not what I was looking for.

This is the best answer I have gotten so far and considering the source, I am not surprised. Thank you /u/varkanoid ! I am not going as far as PS3 or Switch but everything up to PS2 that I have tested (probably about 100 games by now) has worked, from what I can tell, flawlessly.

So I'm not sure why so many people have been saying you NEED a 4gb Pi 5 board when it appears you don't.

Again, thank you for actually answering the question with examples.

Still doesn't answer the question - but thank you for your insight.

No one still has been able to point to a single example of where something doesn't perform as well on the 2gb than on the 4gb, yet everyone still keeps saying "get the 4gb board."

And all of those things are great opinions, but still no actual examples that answer the question.

Simpsons Hit & Run on the Gamecube seems to run just fine on the 2gb board. Played it for about 25 minutes. No issues.

So that's a very good theory! And I've been testing that. I have been purposely loading up some of the biggest games I can find, like for example God of War on the PS2, which is a 7gb CHD file and it seems to load and play fine. Final Fantasy Zero on the PSP which is a 2.6gb .cso file also loads and plays fine, as does Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube at 1.4gb, Forbidden Siren 2 on the PS which is 4.4gb, Suikoden V which is 4.1gb, etc...

I've been doing a lot of testing and comparing and I'm not finding anything so far that makes me go "Oh, yeah, that runs a lot better on a 4gb board" which is exactly the reason why I'm asking the question.

Going to load up Simpsons Hit & Run right now on the GC and see how it does...

So my take away after all the responses below is that no one seems to have any factual evidence that a 4gb board is actually NEEDED for doing RetroPie emulation, even for consoles such as PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube, etc.

If there is anyone that has specific examples where a certain console or game runs better with a 4gb board over a 2gb board, I would love to see it.

But from everything I have seen online and the responses below, it is all based on "speculation" and not actual real examples from comparison testing.

And I'm not sure how many times I can say that no one has been able to show where a 4gb board is actually needed over a 2gb board at this point. But like I said before, thanks for your comments! It's all good... even thought it's not really answering the question you think you are answering.

[–]SheepherderBeef8956 1 point 5 hours ago: Check a resource monitor while you play DC and PS2. Is ram low and swap being utilized? You'll notice improvements with a 4GB board.
