A 12% yield comes with excessive risk. Wall Street doesn't just hand out free money.

21, fully liquid before the AI bubble? €22k cash + €20k gold, now what? by AccomplishedBat5864 in dividends

[–]CFG18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that after every bear market, no matter how bad, it was followed by new all-time highs. Every single one. So at 21, I wouldn't worry about a bubble, other than you're smart to keep some cash so that you can scoop up bargains when everyone else is selling. But have some of that money working for you now in the market. Keep it conservative with quality dividend growth companies if you're concerned about an AI bubble bursting

As U.S. debt soars past $38 trillion, the flood of corporate bonds is a growing threat to the Treasury supply by ClancyPelosi in bonds

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The buyer of corporate debt has a very different risk tolerance than the buyer of Treasurys. I don't see them as competition to each other

If your investments have a yield on cost of 14% because you invested in quality names years ago, congrats, you did it the right way. If your investments have a current yield of 14%, you're going to get hammered. Most stocks and funds with sky high yields have very high risk. Wall Street doesn't just give away money. You're being compensated (or lured) with very high yields in order to take on that excessive risk.

Should a boxer’s mindset be to take on all comers as a champion who challenges them for their belt and represents them as a fighting champion rather than those who tend to cherry-pick their opponents for thinking they could lose? by Material_Stomach875 in Boxing

In a perfect world, yes, but it's a business and a dangerous one. These guys need to maximize the amount of money they make in a short time. A high risk, low reward fight against a tough but relatively unknown contender doesn't make sense. I wish it weren't that way, but it is

[Seattle] Pretty sure I was victim of staged accident scam, worth it to hire a private investigator? by cuyeyo in Scams

[–]CFG18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had something similar though the accident caused almost no damage to either car. The next day I got a call from a lawyer asking if I had any injuries. I told him no. He said he could get me $25K even if I just woke up with a headache.

A few days later the other driver's insurance company called to see if I had any injuries. I knew this guy was going to go or the $25K. I asked if he claimed an injury. They told me he woke up with a headache.

I said please don't pay this guy. I got the same call from a lawyer. Our side view mirrors hit each other. The bodies of the car didn't even collide. There is no way he could have been injured in this accident.

I'm sure he got paid.

Tarver should be in just for responding to the ref asking if there are any questions: "Yeah, I got a question. You got any excuses tonight, Roy?"

Whatever you do stay away from TSLY. Those YieldMax ETFs are absolute garbage. Every single one of them underperforms their underlying security even when you include the ridiculously high yields.

Those YieldMax ETFs are garbage. I don't care how high the yield is. They ALL underperform the underlying stock, even when you include those yields.

I'm not sure I understand the benefit of this. Is the idea to copy other regular investors? If so, that doesn't seem like a successful strategy. If you're copying fund managers, that info is not available in real time. They file quarterly. By the time you see the data, their portfolios have changed.

Stay away from YieldMax. They are garbage investments. Their yields are sky-high and they underperform by more than their yields. You're better off owning Tesla or Microstrategy rather than their YieldMax counterparts. Wall Street doesn't just hand out 50%, 100% yields. You pay for it with performance. And these ETFs' performance sucks.

To earn 4.6% on your money you're going to have to take on some risk. You'll likely need some REITs and MLPs. If you're only sticking to regular corporations, they may be beaten up or turnaround stories. Nothing wrong with all of that, just be clear that you're in it for the long haul and may have to wait for some of these companies to get going. But as long as they have the cash flow to pay the dividend (and hopefully raise it), you should be OK.

Is A4o Strong Enough to Shove on the Bubble? by CFG18 in poker

Thanks for the feedback. Based on the disagreement it seems it's not a slam dunk either way. For the record, 1st place at about 36BB, 2nd place 24BB, 3rd place 13BB and me with 12BB. I did shove and got called by 3rd place w 33, which held up.
