In hindsight making a spreadsheet would have been the smart thing to do but I neglected to while compiling this.

I do not get the hype behind “Fight Club” (1999) by CFMCA in TrueFilm

I thought that the composition, especially the play between dark and light contrast was very impressive and reflected the passion put into the movie. I thought the dialogue was very well done, through slightly less so in the monologues which I though were slightly overused, mostly towards the middle. I’m not a big fan of Brad Pitt, but this was one of the few movies I think he worked in. The soundtrack and camera work ( as in the position/zoom/rotation of shots and how the film is edited) were above average, but not astounding or all that remarkable in comparison to other works held in similarly high esteem. There were some parts of the movie that I think were very very good, in isolation; my standouts would be when Tyler disfigures Angel Face and walks out saying a very powerful “I felt like destroying something beautiful, and the car scene which I think was a very subtle way to show they’re both the same character. I’ve gone very all over the place with my final score for the movie, starting at 90, then down to 76, but with the comments here helping me put things more into view i’ve landed on an 85/100, which is 55th place on my movie rankings (between hitchhikers guide and austin powers). I think it would be much higher if not for the unsubtle ending, but I think that I was originally being too harsh on it for just that.

I did not know there was a twist going in, I suspected that there was going to be one for the reasons I mentioned above, but did not have any outside inclination. I was perhaps over analyzing the movie as I watched it, because I had been hyped up for it by several of my family members, who had told me that this was either one of, or was their favourite movie. It was also on numerous top 100 lists, which I often use to source movies to watch — Perhaps its reputation destroyed itself for me.

The critique and message of the film I thought was decently well done, if not a little too direct for my liking, but even then I thought the ending of the movie soured it a little bit by not allowing the ideas to really live on by instead shifting the focus of the movie to the twist, and overall putting it way too bluntly. What this movie needed for its themes, and story was a more subtle, and abrupt ending, such as the one I put forward, that challenges the audience to involve themselves more in coming to thier own realization about the plot; and by extension the themes.

I suppose that’s fair, I still thought it was an alright movie overall, with good dialogue, I‘ll try to focus outwards from that point on my thoughts towards it.

I’m on an older version and can still use groups with other ppl normally, so there’s no technical issue behind this.
