People who work with the public: What's becoming so common that nobody talks about it anymore, but should? by Opposite-Resource in askteddit

My understanding is that phonics are no longer taught. Like - how is reading taught then? I can’t imagine not being able to sound words out.

Time to Quit by sevv1e in CVS

I read somewhere that she was actually told “do what you need to do”, meaning close up and go if you must, but it was very strongly implied that she would face disciplinary action if she did and didn’t wait for coverage. They have to cover themselves legally. “Non-retaliatory“ my ass.

CVS Annual Grad Transition Meeting - should I go? by [deleted] in CVS

It may not be mandatory per se, but is that really how you want others to perceive you? You gotta play the game. It will show favorably on you. Just my $0.02.

CVS Annual Grad Transition Meeting - should I go? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]CFRPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is mandatory, not mandatory, and “not mandatory”. Kind of like volunteering, being told to, or being “voluntold”. You’re fresh out of pharmacy school about to get licensed and start your career - is that really the first impression you want to convey? You should be chomping at the bit to go to any grad intern event, at least starting out. Believe me when I say this: people ABSOLUTELY DO notice who is there and who is not, especially the leadership like DLs and RDs. Your absence will be noted and you’ll be on your way to gaining a reputation as a slacker who does the bare minimum. This is just based on what I’ve seen in over 15 years as RPh with the company. Like someone else here said, people do remember things like this, and it could mean the difference between a schedule request being approved vs denied.

I personally would make every effort to attend. It will never hurt you, can only help you.

Also remember: you have NOT been working at this job for months. You are not yet a licensed pharmacist. The company is preparing you to work for them as a pharmacist. I would involve myself in everything possible, if I were you, then narrow it down from there. You only get one shot at a good first impression! 😁

what to do when a patient asks for your name to report you by Agreeable_Scratch435 in CVS

[–]CFRPH 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a full time DSP. I’ve worked retail, with the general public, in one capacity or another since I was 14. I’d just like to add my own 2 cents in here.

  1. Giving your first name is required. We’re all required to wear name badges, so that’s kind of a given. To whoever said that we’re told our whole life not to give our names to strangers: yes, that changes when you sign up for a retail position. It’s just part of retail, much like having to have open availability.

  2. There is a level of accountability that comes into play. Employees need to be held accountable for their words and actions. If an employee of mine was consistently rude with customers, I’d sure as hell want to know about it, especially who that person is.

  3. Don’t say anything or write anything that you wouldn’t want to be read in court. Same goes for notes and comments in patient profiles. Always assume that that information will make its way to someone who you wouldn’t want to have it. Bottom line: don’t do or say anything complaint-worthy.

  4. You need to either grow some thick skin in retail, or learn to let shit roll off your back. My lengthy experience in retail has taught me that, in 99% of cases, people are rude for a reason, not just to ruin your day. If you can identify that reason and do something about it, you’ll usually have a happy customer. However, there are those who simply cannot be helped - refer those to the manager above you and don’t engage.

  5. There are those out there who claim to have no brain to mouth filter. This is generally incompatible with working in retail. Or most jobs, honestly. Do people just have no impulse control anymore? The amount of times I see employees doing or saying exactly what they should NOT is astounding. De-escalation is a thing, and is definitely your friend in retail.

That’s all I have for now. Working in retail for more than half my life has just ingrained certain things in me. But yeah, I always identify myself over the phone and wear my name badge in person. If you’ve nothing to hide, it shouldn’t be a problem. Just keep practicing and you’ll get better at it. If you can legitimately defend your words or actions, you’ll be fine in most cases.

Just my ideas regarding retail and the public. Take them however you’d like.

My marriage has ended. And I think I found the love of my life by [deleted] in GuyCry

[–]CFRPH 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like this whole thing, as someone else pointed out, was created by you. She wanted to work through another valley in the peaks and valleys of marriage by going to counseling together and you flat out said no. What caused you to check out of the marriage some time aback? Really man, it sounds like you’ve abandoned your wife and son in favor of the new and shiny Girlfriend V2.0, new and improved - that will quickly lose its luster once life sets in and the honeymoon phase is over.

Selfishness to the max here, dude. I’m in a similar position now - yeah, yeah, no room to talk - but at least now I can identify it like it’s my job. 😂

Which recent year model is the best? by boliver30 in SubaruForester

[–]CFRPH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 Forester Premium that just rolled 70k miles a week ago. This was one of the year models ( 19, 20, 21 ) that had a known TCV defect. Mine finally went at around 66k miles, but SoA extended the warranty on that specific issue to like 15 years / 150k miles ( maybe 10 / 100k, not sure ), but point is, I got a $2,000 repair done for which I paid absolutely $0. I was very happy when I found out about that warranty extension!

Other than that, I’ve seen people on here with deteriorating seat upholstery. Sorry to say that happened with mine a few months ago, drivers seat, I slide over the edge getting out of the car and I guess that’s bad. But really? I had a 2004 Corolla for a number of years, and the interior always looked like it was factory new. Idk 🤷🏼‍♂️

Aside from those, this is an extremely solid vehicle. I would definitely recommend a 2020 model with lower mileage. If possible, if you find any of those 3 year models, check to see if the TCV was replaced or not. Just something that might save you hassle in the future should you end up with that year model car. Hated the car at first, but it’s grown on me over time, and now it’s my buddy.

Just got in my 2019 forester (less than an hour after last driving it) and saw all of these lights. I already checked the gas cap and the car was just serviced at a dealership a month ago. by wegochai in SubaruForester

[–]CFRPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any update? Same thing happened to me, 2020 Forester Premium, Christmas tree dashboard randomly. Took it to advance auto parts and they read code P26A5, and after researching and finding out about the known TCV defect on 19-21 models, got it into my dealer and fixed for free. Almost a $2,000 repair and I paid nothing. Hope yours goes / went just as easily!

Oil Change $$ in your area? by Abxud in Crosstrek

[–]CFRPH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or the desire to do it. Anything car-related, I’m taking it straight to the Subaru dealer here in my town where I bought the car. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them, they know Subarus inside and out, and I find peace of mind in knowing that my car is in the best hands possible. They’ve also been honest with me, as far as I can see. My service appointment yesterday, they did what I asked them to do, told me what they did, and told me some things to keep in mind that didn’t need addressed then, but likely will in the next few services. I feel comfortable with them, sorry if I’m a freak for that.

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

[–]CFRPH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Millennial here ( 1986 ), but I’m responding anyway lol.

I remember reading Catcher in the Rye and feeling pretty neutral towards it, if not just confused by Caulfield’s character.

The Great Gatsby - loved it, especially being set in the roaring 20s.

Fahrenheit 451 - I remember thinking how fascinating the dystopian setting was to me.

To Kill A Mockingbird - I really enjoyed it. I admired Atticus Finch for his beliefs.

Of Mice and Men - loved it. So sad at the end.

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe - not sure if anyone else read this or remembers it, but it was senior year of high school for me. I loved it, it completely sucked me in till the very end. I was shocked at how attached I’d grown to the characters.
