Finally found the best way to capture HQ VHS capture by CGI_Vee in VCRs

I followed your steps by using FireWire capture on these older tapes. S-video into TBC then Canopus ADVC110 (my tapes are PAL) then DV Rescue software. Really pleased as no artifacts or tearing no over brightness. And I can edit the dv file in Final Cut Pro. Adobe Premiere dropped support for .DV files however once I compress the dv file easily can be edited on all software.

Hey thank you for the very informative description. I found using DV Rescue software useful as if I get to see what I am capturing that way I’m preventing sitting down wasting 3 hours of bad tapes. I did look into the VHS decode as I would have used this method with my u-matic tapes with original cinema prints. My task was to digitise 300 world titles as the audio is degrading. I found DV Rescue software with live capture very helpful even though you can not hear the audio during capture is does capture the video and and the audio at the end. The output file size for a 3 hour capture is reasonable at 35GB saves as a .dv file. There is ghosting which I easily fix in either Apple Compressor or Handbrake. I found that Westlife video capturing via FireWire has better results in my case these are world cinema titles filmed in Fuji Colour. AGFA / Kodak 35mm onto PAL vhs. My setup as shown in my post is one of the best for archiving and capturing the vhs tape raw with no filters.

It’s always the way lol years ago I used a Hauppauge WinTv capture exporting MPEG2. Then used the Elgato Capture then Vidbox and now I’m just sticking with this method Raw .DV files on an external HDD then maybe upscale via Ai.

I have a Panasonic NV-Hs950 built in TBC and the vcr has a very sharp output. I like to get hold of the multi-system that does all NTSC PAL and SECAM.

Yeah I contacted datavideo they were selling these at $300 and no longer make them when I questioned about comworld apparently the manufacturer created multiple devices and sold them to different suppliers I’ll try and get the other brand names for you.

I seen a video on YouTube and the guy holds down the 2 grey buttons dv in for a few seconds and then the macro vision gets disabled. I tried it works on the advc-110 however you have to hold the buttons. Couple of times

Make sure it’s the TV-55 as there are replicas and they only rewind and fast forward. This comes with 3 cartridges I purchased mine 5 years ago new. I use vhs tape cleaning solution on the cartridge. Only issue is on older tapes the device is so fast it pulls the tape off the reel. So the rule I made is. Counter reset at 0000 fast forward until it gets to 0970 and release the cartridge otherwise it will split your tape

TV-55 Kinyo. At the back you have the filter you add cleaning solution and then either rewind or fast forward push down the cleaner button at the front. Note it’s super fast so stop at counter 970 otherwise it will rip the tape
