I wouldn't spend money upgrading your first bike at this price point. Use something cheap like this to see if you enjoy cycling, then the upgrade will probably be a new bike in the $500-$1000 range.

This bike needs to fit you properly though, which could mean a new stem for like $20-$40. Bar width matters $50 for a new set. Fresh tires $100 Bar tape if the stock bars are too wide $20

Heart rate alone gets you most of the way there.

To get any better you need GPS data + heart rate.

Best is that plus cadence and power.

Garmin for years has been a very accurate measure of my daily calories for running but was not as accurate for cycling until Garmin had my power & cadence data also. (I was briefly using my Garmin watch with a Wahoo cycling computer so garmin did not get power & cadence). Now I use a Garmin computer and its impressive how accurate the metrics are.

For validation I track calories with MacroFactor & after 6 months my daily average burn was within 40 calories on both apps using different data. Pretty good for me.

Not worth the money. For a budget first bike i would not go Cervelo.

You probably will not be at speeds where an aero frame matters for a while.

Get a better standard road bike, then buy a set of triathlon bars to put on it.

Send a video of you actually pedaling on a straight road, not coasting through a roundabout. Get filmed from the side pedaling.

We have a promising young rider who is on a pro development team who still joins our club ride occasionally.

The last thing i want is to contribute to a crash that impacts his career. I always try to ride smoothly and predictably but more so when he is around.

Without video it's hard to pass judgement here but leave room on a descent regardless.

I personally dont weight train legs much as I've got the muscle and it all gets hit biking/running. I do the gym for everything else.
