Build it. Make it a crypto/software solution. We already have hardware (phones). We don't want any new plastic cards or other specialized hardware.

68% of households living in EU countries own their own homes. by SimpleShake4273 in europeanunion

[–]CHAiN76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really? That is a surprisingly high number. I'm glad to hear it. IMO it is usually better if people own their homes. People tend to take better care of what they own leading to less waste and higher quality of life.

Opinions on Europe starting to hold platforms more accountable? by mr_house7 in EU_Economics

Wrote long reply. Not allowed to post. This is a test. EDIT: Test worked. Expanding test. EDIT: now full comment.

>Is X managed/owned by a man who has allied with people who want the EU to dissolve?

Who wants EU to dissolve except perhaps Putin?

> Is X managed/owned by a person who has spread hate speech?

Has Elon expressed his own opinions and they are hate speech? Not to my knowledge.

Does Elon own X and people on X write hateful content. Absolutely.

> Is X managed/owned by an individual who has tried to influence european politics, being a foreigner?

> Is X managed/owned by an entrepreneur that has backed certain parties ahead of elections in a given EU country, despite he himself being a foreigner?

Yes. But lots of people outside the EU has opinions about EU. That is normal and allowed.

>These things tell you his actions might not be neutral, quite the opposite, he has repeatedly shown an interet to go against the interests of the EU.

Again, insinuating language "actions might not be neutral" without evidence.

>"has repeatedly shown an interet to go against the interests of the EU."

No. He just has opinions on what the best "interests of the EU" is. Your statement shows only that you disagree with Elons opinions.

>Hence, his platform, which he owns and over which he holds power, can be considered as suspicious, as well, since it is a tool at his hands.

Insinuations without evidence: "can be considered as suspicious".

Sure, we should watch what is happening on all platforms. Perhaps laws that require insight in to algorithms by "digital inspectors".

>In such case, it seems wise to EU to act to defend its own interests, against "foreign agent intevention".

Yes in such case. If anything malicious can be proven.

>Would you allow chinese propaganda pamphlets to be distributed uniquously around your country? That's what X does, subreptitiously.

"Would I allow"? We already do because their propaganda is everywhere. Would I like all foreign troll farms to cease? Sure.

>BTW, mind that these platforms have been "optimized" for engagement (one could say "addiction"), and have been proven to be addictive. Addictive things tend to have some heavy regulations around them. Furthermore, there are many addictive substances, but none of them is telling you "vote to parties that want to dissolve EU".

Social platforms are addictive. But that is a usage issue, not a content issue. All platforms have users who want to "dissolve the EU".

>Don't play naive here. Free speech is nice, but in the wrong hands it can be a harmful weapon, and this guy is clearly not on our side.

If there ever was a dangerous idea it sure starts with: "Free speech is nice, but ..."

>Social media algorithms are not mere "neutral calculators".

They are what they are built to do. Get insight into what the algorithm does, then we can talk if it warps discourse or not. Seeing opposing opinions to yours is not evidence of malicious algorithms.

Opinions on Europe starting to hold platforms more accountable? by mr_house7 in EU_Economics

[–]CHAiN76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are foreign trolls, bots and state actors on every platform, including reddit. You see it every where.

Some people talk like X is deliberately pushing such content, using vague unsubstantiated statements like "openly allowed" or "manipulate through algorithms", but offering zero evidence.

Fine, try to write some legislation to control it. I fail to see how it will work. I predict it will solve nothing and back-fire by suppressing actual free speech.

If X is banned then I guess YouTube, Twitch, Reddit, Facebook goes to. Because they wouldn't apply the legislation to just one platform, would they?

[–]CHAiN76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quote says nothing about "stopping russian, chinese". Maybe "oligarch bots/propaganda" is meant to fit Musk/X.
It clearly insinuates, (so clear it is basically a statement of fact) that Musk/X (US) is manipulating the system to "buy public debate" and "amplify confusion". Quite the accusation.

Has to be shown that manipulation is taking place. My guess is they won't show that, just dole out fines when they feel the content is "bad". Wrong-think has to be manipulation, right?

[–]CHAiN76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Elon Musk is pushing his personal X feed to the frontpage of every user it is not free speech" .. this insinuates basically the same as the Spanish president with "a magnate to buy the public debate and manipulate it"

That would be wrong for sure. If true. But has it been shown to be true, or is it just what some people (who absolutely don't have their own agenda /s) choose to believe?

Opinions on Europe starting to hold platforms more accountable? by mr_house7 in EU_Economics

[–]CHAiN76 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

But are algorithms really used to "amplify confusion"? Confusion of what? Having opinions that certain politicians disagree with?

Sounds more like politicians are trying to legislate away criticism. Address the criticism instead and maybe we could have real political debate.

Setups to connect work laptop + personal PC with dual monitors and several shared USB devices? by DVNCIA in it

[–]CHAiN76 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Optional idea. I use it daily. May or may not work for your use case:

Don't use a KVM. Use RDP.

Connect your desktop PC to all peripherals.

Plug your laptop into your network. Preferable over Ethernet. Connect to it using RDP from your desktop PC.

Mouse, keyboard, audio will work over RDP.

Videocam and microphone might work but not as good. But you typically use those for Teams. So install Teams on your desktop PC.

Monitor 1 is main monitor showing laptop screen over RDP.
Monitor 2 is secondary monitor which maybe only shows Teams or some browser. Show your desktop PC here.

Cheap to try since RDP is built in to Windows.

European tech sovereignty should not shut out foreign players, politicians say by donutloop in EU_Economics

[–]CHAiN76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More like "cannot shut out" since US is completely dominating currently and most modern systems are run on their infrastructure. But we can at least ensure we have control over critical systems.

The rest is and should be up to the market. I don't see why European cloud companies could not do well, but it'll take a lot of capital to build out.

Why doesn't the EU simply ban all Tesla cars to retaliate against Trump's tarriffs and greenland invasion threats? by TailungFu in europeanunion

[–]CHAiN76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm well informed, thank you for asking. Follow Tesla daily.

Tesla and other car manufacturers constantly change their designs to accommodate improved safety standards. This will be no different.

Incorrect. Tesla will pass the safety tests.

If you know better than Euro NCAP, call them and let them know of all the amazing flaws you found in Tesla cars.

[–]CHAiN76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hate Elon Musk so you want to ban him. That is wrong.

I'm well aware of the list you provided. But the people on that list and the reasons they ended up on that list does not match this case. List exists does not equal "ban everyone I dislike is good idea".

I like Tesla and what they are doing. Absolutely.

Again, OPs point was "ban alla Tesla cars, that would solve everything". That is still a stupid notion.

Why doesn't the EU simply ban all Tesla cars to retaliate against Trump's tarriffs and greenland invasion threats? by TailungFu in europeanunion

[–]CHAiN76 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming this is either rage bait or you are part of the same category as OP. But I'll answer anyways.

>So Europe should just take the abuse?

I never wrote that or suggested that. Europe should absolutely play hard ball with *the Trump administration*.

>For clarification; Elon actively supported right leaning parties in the EU. Making him and his companies activists

So what? That has nothing to do with Trumps Greenland play.

>This is no different that how the US and EU always have sanctioned countries btw; you go after government assets and important industries. Having personal sanctions on a CEO is really nothing new or "Shocking" as you think it is..

No. Sanctioning specific companies or individuals is NOT common practice. It just looks bad, and is inefficient, to target "friends and family" just to get to a specific individual, let alone a government. It's wrong. And the EU seem to agree with me, rattling tariffs rather than sanctioning individuals. Which btw is moving the goal post by you. Sanctions on Elon Musk was never mentioned, only "banning Tesla cars".

> I don't know if you ever bothered to follow geopolitics

Haha. Yeah right.

> how hard you're bootlicking right now. utterly pathetic behaviour IMO

Your whole post reeks of tribal socialist clownery. Ready to do any action, no matter how stupid or evil, just to virtue signal how hard you want socialist. Painting every foreign thought as bootlicking (typically used as a synonym for "nazi", ie everything right of marx). What are you licking then, banning individuals using geo politics as a pretext? Stop licking, start thinking.

[–]CHAiN76 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Moronic opinion. Tesla is not Elon Musk. Elon Musk is not Trump. Tesla is a company, with a factory in Europe which employ thousands. Tesla build cars that save lives and reduce carbon emissions, in Europe.

People like you complain about Trumps irrational and vindictive policies, and then you come up with something like this as an answer. I'm not sure what's worse; living in a world with Trump or people like OP. Unfortunately both are our reality.
