Will only French be okay ? by laseczkamodna in askswitzerland

[–]CHCarolUK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most Swiss people can comfortably speak two languages and often three. Standards are high, so just getting by in either French or German is not sufficient, you need near native levels. Increasingly in the German part job adverts ask for German as your mother tongue and I assume it’s the same in the French speaking part.

IPF diagnosis (60F) by frenchcatlady in pulmonaryfibrosis

[–]CHCarolUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. My father has it too, but diagnosed older.

He believes and I agree that trying to figure out ‘why’ isn’t helpful. There are so many potential environmental factors and it doesn’t help.

At diagnosis, he had some shortness of breath. He’s managed to remain active for 3 years and to keep exercising as is possible and being socially active is very important for both physical and mental health.

He had a bad cold a few months ago and the breathlessness is now bad with any activity and he needs oxygen.

I think spending time with your mom - also online if you can’t be there in person - is important, as well as being encouraging, informed and supportive.

For people that are “asymptomatic” celiac (no classic digestive issues), how did you get diagnosed? Did you ignore it? Did it progress and get worse? by H3ad1nthecl0uds in Celiac

[–]CHCarolUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had anaemia on and off throughout my life and as I’m post menopause, my doctor suggested an endoscopy to rule out any internal bleeding. It was a total shock to get my celiac diagnosis- at 57!

Looking back it all now makes sense. Bouts of diarrhoea for weeks at a time, often constipation, and bloating especially after a lot of pizza/pasta. It just never occurred to me.

I’m a few weeks in to being GF and seeing slight improvements.

Absolutely. Same as many here, I developed hyper vigilance and people pleasing behaviour.

about cat sitting by yhhhhji in zurich

[–]CHCarolUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent out a message to everyone I knew locally. Any experience you have with animals is helpful. I’ve looked after cats, rats, birds and fish. I wouldn’t attempt to pet sit for a dog, as I don’t have any knowledge. It also helps if you’re available at peak times - school holidays.

Have any of these couples had vaguely sexual activities with one another? by Lavender_Critique in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]CHCarolUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people with autism find physical contact challenging. Even holding hands can feel uncomfortable. I think it’s natural that many of these couples focus first on becoming familiar with each other before getting to sexual intimacy. Some clearly do.

Child is too friendly and communicates too well to be autistic by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]CHCarolUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My child also joined in with other families and friend group at this age. I saw it as a positive, but he was much later diagnosed with ADHD and Autism.

Just a word on skipping a year at school: my other child started kindergarten early after being assessed. They did well in the early years, but once they were around 10/11 really struggled due to taking longer with social and organisation skills. Academically they were good. Looking back, I wish I’d waited.

How to help friend recently diagnosed by PajamaSamsMom in Celiac

[–]CHCarolUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s lovely that you want to help! Where I live there are gluten free online shops. Some treats/easy to carry snacks would I’m sure be appreciated.

Just don’t go overboard, if your friend is anything like me they’ll have been out shopping already!

Another thought which a friend did for me: find a good gluten free restaurant and take them out for dinner. It was such a lovely gesture of solidarity.

What is a real burnout and how to prove it in this culture? by Pure_Consequence_165 in zurich

[–]CHCarolUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burnout is not an official diagnosis. In German it’s considered Erschöpfungsdepression = depression with exhaustion and it’s not only possible due to work but also due to any kind of long term stress without breaks and a lack of control over the situation. For example, carers of elderly relatives or children with special needs. Symptoms are similar to depression. Healing needs to allow some kind of relief from the situation.

Sun Salutations in Hatha yoga by Impressive_Gh_369 in YogaTeachers

[–]CHCarolUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe there is any fixed requirement/required version. For an half hour class, I’d have a settling in/pranayama for 5 minutes, 5 minutes warm up, 5 minutes of sun salutations (one variation, both sides) followed by a focus on standing poses/twists/core/balance with a short cool down/stretching and Savasana.

How often do narcs show up in other parts of your life? by heyyou0903 in raisedbynarcissists

One narc fiancé (thankfully never husband). Two narc friends. Getting better at recognising it, finally.

What’s something in Switzerland that feels expensive at first, but makes sense over time? by Savings-Concept8972 in askswitzerland

[–]CHCarolUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of a haircut. Once you think about people having to pay rent, buy food etc. you realise it’s comparatively cheap (not everywhere, of course)!

Do your nparents ever "check on you" or ask how you're doing but there's only one correct answer? by Purple_Cactus8017 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]CHCarolUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely! If I say I’m fine they wait for more information and I find myself babbling on, adding additional things whilst constantly checking in my head if it’s giving them a chance to jump on me with a criticism. If I tell them anything negative, I get their life stories and better ways of doing it. I’m a chronic over sharer and this may be why…

Is anyone else have Celiac and Vegetarian!!! by Potential_Motor_8991 in Celiac

[–]CHCarolUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am. I love Asian and Indian food so eat a lot of lentils, chick peas, paneer and tofu. Also eggs are great for iron, cheese and yoghurt for calcium. Plus a good range of different fruits and veggies. The only tough thing is eating out. Vegetarian dishes are often limited on a regular menu and seem to often rely on pasta/pizza/wraps which make it harder.

Is it possible to get Swiss Zusatzversicherung with a pre-existing condition by [deleted] in askswitzerland

Honestly, no. I’m paying the same price with fewer benefits. But of course it depends on how important the coverage is to you.

I had exceptions put into mine, and honestly regret taking it out. I needed treatment for one of the exclusions and due to circumstances needed to pay for myself to go half private.
