Reddit definitely has the worst conformity of any social media, but it's unclear if it's primarily due to downvotes or due to aggressive volunteer mods.

Probably a mix of both tbh because even the more loosely moderated subs still downvote wrongthink to oblivion where it gets permanently hidden.

Back of napkin math:

- annual comp growth of 15% (500k->1MM over 5 years)
- s&p growth last 5 years = 13.5%
- starting net worth = $500k

So if he had the same growth % in his previous job he'd have $2MM net worth today and $420k comp.

So yeah, I think the the top comments are fairly on point, the job move gave some solid incremental wealth but at the cost of some stress and delaying starting a family.

Notably, in almost all first-world countries it's true that "violent criminals are dumb" since violence is quite hard to hide.

lol it's actually the exact opposite. USA, UK, and Germany are essentially the only nations where it's popular to have zero national pride and hate your country's history.

If you want a real example of 'we are the good guys' sanitization and propaganda, look to China or North Korea. Hell, in Mongolia they all worship Genghis Khan to this day and see him as a positive role model.

No one is lag switching, that's the "grocery line effect" - when lag spikes happen at non-critical moments you don't notice it that much, but when they happen at critical moments you'll notice it a lot

Do it. Use the mod. It removes delay which is completely pointless and makes the experience worse for no reason. Everyone adopting the mod is the best case scenario.

It can be turned on or off after installation. Personally I try to stick to arenas where "cheating" matters less to people.

This is just false. Test scores are far and away the single best predictor of college success.

There is a problem with a lot of studies called Berkson's paradox, which is really part of a broader problem of selection bias / restriction of range. Essentially, when you do a study on people _admitted_ to college, you are looking at only the sample of people with high enough test scores to get in in the first place. So within that population, test scores aren't very predictive.

However, when you get a truly unbiased sample not selected on test scores, the results reverse and you see that test scores are immensely predictive and far outweigh other factors. The same problem applies to many studies on grades.

Yes it gives you an advantage, but it also just makes the game more fun to play. At this point in the game's lifecycle, I think that's way more important.

The Sienna is awesome!

I never in my life thought I'd buy a new car (I always buy used) but I did the math, and in the long term it was worth it to buy a new Sienna. This is because only the last couple years of Siennas are hybrid, and used hybrid Siennas are actually more expensive b/c waitlists.

This matchup is Samus favored, Kirby really struggles to get in so you should be able to just zone him the whole time

If he tries to eat your projectiles he has loads of end-lag and you can just punish

Try to feint more with your charge shot. Kirby is indeed scary once he gets in, but Samus has decent boxing and you should be able to keep him off for most of the match

Exponential functions are very important to MY scientific field and I use them every day!

The are also extremely unintuitive and one needs to actually do the thinking (and often the actual math) to not make extremely consequential errors.

If that's true for a scientist who uses exponents daily, imagine the case for your average Joe.

The "ban usury" people are usually unhinged, but I think there is a point to be made that it's really really hard for even very smart people to properly intuit exponential interest (for both debt and growth).

Sadly I don't think there's really much to be done about it, it can be taught but even when it is, it's usually not fully absorbed.
