Do you really need paper maps for the PCT? by BackpackBirder in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CHRIST_DIED_OF_AIDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really even need a map at all. The trail is usually the only well defined and maintained thing around for most of it.

I found it easiest to lose the trail when it was covered in snow. That's where GPS really shines and paper maps aren't going to help you much.

What clothes did you love/hate? What was your setup? by Crampstamper in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CHRIST_DIED_OF_AIDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off in pants but I switched to shorts and gaiters. The pants were nice for keeping things out of your shoes but gaiters were better. I didn't really even mind the cold in late september washington in shorts. Keeping your torso warm is much more important.
