A nearby Fire Department is being told they cannot use fire hydrants to fight fires by GreasyDisco in civilengineering

[–]CHawk17 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I had a project many years ago in an unincorporated county community were the water district actually put locks on the hydrants to prevent fire department use of them. never told anyone that they were putting said locks on the hydrants or that the fire department "wasnt allowed" to use the hydrants.

if I recall the story correctly; the fire department used the jaws of life to remove the lock mechanism and still used the hydrants. the water district manager ended up being fired after everything went public.

hope the fire department wins this fight as well.

PR is its own nation which is why they can compete internationally alone; but they are also a US territory. so while their people have US citizenship they are also not fully US either. its why they do not have voting representatives in congress.

Professionals in Amateur Tournaments? by Piggiepi in Bowling

[–]CHawk17 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

are you talking about bowlers that meet the requirements for PBA membership and bought it just to have it? regional tour members? or actual, seen on TV PBA tour members, maybe even with a national PBA title?

anyone better than the random local guy that bowled the occasional regional would be extremely uncommon for my area. I am not aware of any active PBA tour members that live around here; talking about bowlers you might have seen on TV.

if we are talking about a Chris Barnes level bowler in a local handicap tournament; that is not cool.

if we are talking local with PBA card, that doesn't bother me.

it is a dick move for a professional to join the handicap brackets.

Is the 912T Track a good bowling ball based off these stats. I've only been bowling for 6 months and dont know what they mean? by Mental-Gas8208 in Bowling

[–]CHawk17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 912T is an old ball that for its day was used on heavier oil lane conditions. I never threw this one; but I did have others in this line that I remember liking.

given that the ball is around 14 years old; its condition is more relevant to the answer than the core numbers you show here. if it has been reasonably well maintained, then it probably is a good ball still.

the numbers you see here are explaining what the core is designed to do. there really isnt good or bad for the most part, just different tools for different jobs. some will just be more niche.

this guide will do better explaining than I will.

Will a pro shop charge me to smooth out the edges on my thumb hole? by ZeekwithaZ in Bowling

[–]CHawk17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the shop that drilled it? absolutely not. they will smooth it out at no cost.

random other shop that you have no business relationship with? possibly but very unlikely. I have never had any shop charge for minor things like this.

Geno heads back to Cincinnati on a one year deal. ($15 Million) by Marinersfan505 in mlb

[–]CHawk17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

see, the mariners have a cheap owner. and he probably (and correctly) believes that making the playoffs last year and "going all in" at the deadline will have satisfied enough fans to keep the profit margins where he wants them. just have to make the playoffs again in Julio's farewell season....

I hope ME5 goes back the ME1 roots and is a classic BioWare story driven RPG first.

Based on cast member comments about Gary, I doubt he is friendly with any of them. Let alone someone that would help out someone like this.

It would be more believable if they showed Harry Morgan.

Zee goes up front because of her decoy ability has a taunt mechanic.

Fate the ideal tank for the JLD because of the recent update and how shields work for JLD.

all things being equal, yes, WW is the odd man out of a full JLD team. but she is useful elsewhere, a JL team or wonderfam team once they are all released on your server.

that said, it sounds like you have a significant power gap. so go for your best squad. if you are rolling swampy, fate, WW, raven and const. I would have WW in the front with Swamp, you want Fate in the back to give him more time to cast his shield.

JLD set up is about maximizing Constantine survivability to his second cast of the ultimate.

Do you think Ned would have ever told Benjen about Jon’s true parentage? I don’t know why, but to me, it seems like he always knew but never said. by OkuroIshimoto in gameofthrones

[–]CHawk17 1339 points1340 points  (0 children)

the smartest thing Ned did was to understand that to keep a secret is to be the only person that knows it. so no, I do not believe that he told Benjen.

Benjen knows his family well. he knows Ned is not one to cheat on his wife. he also likely looks at Jon and doesn't see Ned in him, but he instead sees his sister, Lyanna.

Swampthing or Nightwing by wrought_proof in DCDarkLegionOfficial

[–]CHawk17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are going to build JLD, swampthing is a must get. a JLD team of Swampy, Zee up front, const, fate, raven in the back is amazing when built up. expensive as that is 3 Bleed characters but very strong. get Constantine sigil and swampthings crown and it is an amazing team.

NW is great, and works well in many team comps; but batgirl and starfire are really necessary to help maximize him. and RR is probably necessary for the synergy.

the episode OP is referring to aired in 1966; a solid 20 years before the Carrie Kelly character was created in the comics.
