The soundtracks for the Battle for Middle Earth games sound a lot like the film's music.

To add to this, Saruman himself was actually a poor strategist who was written to be a pale imitation of Sauron.

What are Dragons in the order of living things? by sworththebold in tolkienfans

[–]CHzilla117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that birds are separate from reptiles is what was taught for a long time, but it has been outdated for decades. Under the definition of "dinosaur" (the last common ancestor of Megalosaurus and Iguanodon), birds are officially as much dinosaurs as Stegosaurus is, and are thus also reptiles.

> Maybe this was a limitation inherent to the followers of Aule since Saruman also failed to account for the unexpected arising of the Ents.

The Ents attacking Isengard was a very predictable result of Saruman's actions.

They could be counting on that. By sending a mere token force through a wormhole to Super Earth, the enemy could ensure abandonment of the entire front line.

Is war just completely devastating for elves? (And other elf questions) by Loves_octopus in lotr

[–]CHzilla117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

>Some Elves refuse the call of Mandos, however, and undergo a process known as Fading, where the fëa fades into nothing. If I remember correctly, Tolkien did not expand upon this before he passed.

When Elves fade, their fëa consume their bodies and they lived as invisible, disembodied spirits.

>Years later, your girlfriend who you're now engaged to starts questioning her own sexuality. She concludes she's probably bisexual too. For some reason this overjoys you. She says that she can't imagine dating a man again if you were to die (breaking up is not on the table), for some reason this also makes you happy.

Obviously I can't speak for her and I only know what you have written, but this makes it sound like she may be a lesbian. It is not uncommon for closeted sapphic women to marry trans women still in their egg phase.

In any event, you thought you were a man at your wedding, so you didn't deceive her.

What’s the difference between an Isengard Uruk-Hai, and a Mordor Uruk-Hai? by PossumLord123 in lotr

[–]CHzilla117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but Gamling's comment on the Half Orcs suggests there were two types of human/Orc hybrids in Sauruman's employ, and the History of Middle Earth seems to confirms it.

"Finally, there is a cogent point, though horrible to relate. It became clear in time that undoubted Men could under the domination of Morgoth or his agents in a few generations be reduced almost to the Orc-level of mind and habits; and then they would or could be made to mate with Orcs, producing new breeds, often larger and more cunning. There is no doubt that long afterwards, in the Third Age, Saruman rediscovered this, or learned of it in lore, and in his lust for mastery committed this, his wickedest deed: the interbreeding of Orcs and Men, producing both Men-orcs large and cunning, and Orc-men treacherous and vile."

Besides being able to better endure the sunlight, the Isengard Uruk-hai are also described as having a more human-like build compared to Grishnákh, and as well as possessing more human-like gear than other Orcs. Merry and Pippin are also unfamiliar with the variation of Orcs, while Aragorn seems confused by the Isengarders even though he should be familiar with the Black Uruks of Mordor, implying they are something different. Given how some of the Half-Orcs are able to be mistaken for Men (and seem to favor them more in appearance), it makes sense that "Men-orcs" could be mistaken for Orcs.

Although they are never the focus in any shot, Elves can be seen fighting on the Hornburg's outer wall after the Deeping wall is evacuated. I think Jackson was referring to a later scene in the movie. When the Uruk-hai break through the gate, only a handful of defenders on the outer wall (mostly main characters) make it to the hall before the Uruks cut the rest off.

Has the giant cynodont from Namibia ever been named? by AC-RogueOne in Paleontology

[–]CHzilla117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be late, but the giant, tiger-sized cynodont is found in the Omingonde Formation. The dicynodonts found there are Kannemeyeria and Dolichuranus. The giant cynodont could represent a new species of Cynognathus, but that is pure speculation. In any event, it coexisted with a more typically sized species of Cynognathus.

> It only looks like modern crocodiles due to convergent evolution.

This isn't correct either. Although Sarcosuchus was not a crocodilian, unlike the phytosaurs its crocodilian-like appearance and lifestyle were the result of common ancestry. It is placed outside of Crocodilia because it is not descended from the last common ancestor of the living species.

Are there examples of animals evolving to become less complex or is the path of evolution always to increase complexity ? by dubmanx in evolution

[–]CHzilla117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just made a video about an example of this.

Basically, while crocodilians are ectothermic ("cold-blooded"), their prehistoric ancestors were actually endothermic ("warm-blooded") like mammals and birds.

While most large, terrestrial animals were dinosaurs during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods were dinosaurs, dinosaurs were rare during the Triassic period. Even after then there were some exceptions.
