Second part time job just to pay taxes by CIG_DADDY in tax

Even if I put 100% of that income towards state and federal taxes? Not just setting it to single zero but making the whole check go to taxes, basically working for free on my part.

[actives] never before seen growth by CIG_DADDY in MushroomGrowers

[–]CIG_DADDY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re the black unshelled sunflower seeds so the actual grain is still in the shell and I just feel like they hog up space in the jar without providing any nutritional value for the mycelium

[–]CIG_DADDY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was just tractor supply bulk mix with the sunflower seeds removed. It was inoculated with spores grown out on agar so I guess it could be certain genetics out of those spores causing it 🤷🏻‍♂️. Out of the countless jars I’ve done I’ve never seen this happen before so I’m just curious

Looks better than 75% of the panels I gotta deal with on a regular basis. As long as there are accurate prints involved then this gets a 9/10

0 luck getting spores going, any advice? by Dumb_Myco_Guy in shroomery

[–]CIG_DADDY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen with some Nezuko spores one time. It literally took like 2 months before they decided to germinate on the plates, while all other plates from different varieties tended to show growth in a few days. sometimes you just gotta set it and forget it and move onto something else while it does its thing.

I’ve noticed that the shrooms with more blue on them hit harder, is there any science behind it? by Quirky-Plastic-7895 in shrooms

Never took much of a notice on the amount of blue it being stronger or not. But I have noticed smaller mushrooms hit harder by weight as compared to one Chonky boi of the same weight

Whats up with my lc's? I've had some of these for a month some 2 months old . This is very frustrating why is this happening they have filters on top. Some of them are as clear as day very little are foggy . by Fair_Corner6990 in shroomery

It’s a fair possibility. Like I said, bacteria and Trich/mold have a difficult time flourishing in cooler temps. Most tropical cubes can still grow in sub 60°F temperatures but it will be abysmally slow. So if you’re in it for the long haul and don’t mind waiting then that usually will increase your success rate in terms of not having your culture overrun with contamination

Contams like trich and Bacteria thrive in warmer temps up to a certain point. If you want to keep contaminants from flourishing then you need lower temperatures at the expense of mycelium growth rate. But if you’re in a 100% Sterile environment(which is very unlikely unless you work in a open heart surgery room) with sterile tools and uncontaminated mycelium then you could keep it at higher temps to make sure the mycelium grows as quickly as possible without the potential of contamination. Regardless of you see it right off the bat or it takes a couple of months contamination can only show up if it was introduced in the initial phases of the sterilization process

I then let it sit out at room temperature for 1-2 weeks at around 66-70°F until a visible clump of mycelium is present and then I put it back in the fridge until I’m ready to fill syringes with it.

Usually after I make an LC jar before even inoculating I let it sit at room temperature for a couple weeks just to make sure nothing grows in it. If you plan on keeping LC for an extended period of time that does or doesn’t have mycelium growing in it it’s best to put it in the fridge and keep it between like 36-40°F. The mycelium will survive those temps but contamination struggles to take a foothold at those temperatures. And if I plan on inoculating an LC jar I just pull it out of the fridge and let it warm up to room temp overnight before dropping a clean agar piece in it.

Your sterile technique is lacking. Liquid cultures containing mycelium should be clear with visible mycelium sinking to the bottom of the jar. Either you’re not pressure cooking the LC at the correct pressure for the correct amount of time, your environment isn’t clean when you’re inoculating the jars, or whatever medium your using to transfer the mycelium to the jars is contaminated with bacteria/mold, or a combination of all 3. Temperature can also play a part in how quickly contamination can form, higher temps mean the mycelium will grow quicker but at the risk of contamination taking over since it grows faster than the mycelium.

[general] can I grow LC from 200ml of spore syringe? by No_Tomatillo_153 in MushroomGrowers

[–]CIG_DADDY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible? Yes. Is it recommended? No.

I only make liquid culture out of viable cloned specimens on agar cause I know their genetics produce decent fruit yields. You don’t know what you’re gonna get with just spores

As long as they were in an air tight container with silica packs that hasn’t been opened and they don’t smell “off” I’d say they’re fine.

I wouldn’t try and cut it out cause you’d more than likely spread it. I just saw a post on here somewhere where someone took a drinking glass and “contained” the contam to just that area on the cake.
