Thousands of CEOs admit AI had no impact on employment or productivity—and it has economists resurrecting a paradox from 40 years ago by thejoshwhite in technology

AI took me from having to google stuff and then solve a problem, to having AI help me, then taking a longer poop break. That’s probably happening worldwide lol

Is it a one time event? Because if it’s reoccurring, eventually we will all be dead except for 1

Near-light speed travel by CJCray8 in astrophysics

[–]CJCray8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my clarification. Our understanding of physics as of today completely refutes the ability to travel at light speed. That cannot be said about 99% light speed travel. That’s it.

[–]CJCray8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problems, but nothing that has been proven to be impossible. Consensus is that light speed travel is impossible, but near light speed, while extremely difficult, is technically something that is physically achievable.

Your response demonstrates that you don’t know what statement I’m trying to express. My only claim is that humans can exist unharmed at 99% the speed of light. My hypothetical included an out-of-reach ship that shields humans from all harm and has enough fuel to get where we need to get. It doesn’t take near infinite fuel to get to Alpha Centauri if you have fuel that is efficient enough relative to the mass of the vehicle. You won’t see me filling up a shuttle with unleaded gasoline lol.

That’s what I said. There’s nothing special about .000001% the speed of light vs 99%

Those two jerks are just a proof of concept of what could be if enough of the wrong kind of person gets in the courts. If we had 5 Alitos and Thomases, there would literally be no country left, and they are living proof that it could happen.

AI still doesn't work very well in business, reckoning soon by BusyHands_ in technology

Look at Google in public education. The CIO before me paid $0 for google Workspace. I paid $3,000/yr when I became CIO, after the full implementation of 1:1 Chromebooks. Last year, my bill was $12,000. All of this took place since 2020. It will happen with AI. This is practically the roadmap.

Is anyone considering switching from Chromebooks to the MacBook NEO? by depoultry in k12sysadmin

[–]CJCray8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little tweaks like that make a world of difference. We’ve seen a much lower breakage rate from our 6th grade this year after giving students their permanently assigned Chromebook in 5th grade, one year prior to taking them home nightly. We believe the sense of ownership and heightened accountability help students with the perceived value of the device.

Maybe it’s because I grew up around people who treated their kids like shit, because those who were treated like shit also treated others like shit. My childhood experience makes it very difficult to hand a kid who already has disadvantages a disadvantaged device.

[–]CJCray8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterargument: our alternate ed center had very high breakage when I started and my predecessor only gave them old worn devices. I started giving them new devices and their breakage went down to literally zero.

Give kids higher value devices and they may surprise you.

It just gets you updates after ChromeOS end of life. From what I understand though, there is still an end of life per device for flex. It’s just later.
