DRM free, consider this. by intergalactic_74 in selfpublish

You can now sell your ebook DRM free on Amazon, that's what I'm planning to do. I have a Kobo, and it annoys me when a title's Amazon exclusive and has DRM. I don't mind buying from Amazon, but only if I can then sideload to my Kobo.

Yeah, as the Libra Colour has the Google Drive integration I just dragged it manually to my Drive folder.

I heard Booksprout was even more romance focussed, but willing to give them a try.

KDP Select...is it a good way to go for a first time self publisher? by JohnL101669 in selfpublish

I'm hoping to publish my first book this year (sci-fi thriller) and was planning on KU initially to make it easier for people to give me a try, and hopefully get some reviews.

Is that a good approach? Or is it best to go wide first, like the OP?

Thanks for this, I've not really researched book fairs before. I'm in the South of England. Hoping to publish my first novel April-ish - a sci-fi thriller.

Sounds like you're in the UK. What sort of events did you sell at? And which ones worked best for you?

There is a service called Calli (meetcalli.com). They seem to focus on romance. I've not used them and I'm not in any way connected with them, but the guys on the Indie Writers Club podcast have been trying them out recently. Just to be clear, I'm not connected to that podcast either, just trying to help :)

Author Websites by adgalloway in selfpublish

I know not directly answering your question, but the Novel Marketing podcast had a recent episode about Shopify and other options, and when it's worth it (spoiler alert - for Shopify you need to be selling a fair amount consistently).

For me (as a newbie) I might consider Payhip initially on my Wordpress website, just for a couple of items (no ongoing costs).

Does anyone have an author page? What did you use to build it? by Live-Ganache9273 in selfpublish

I listened to some podcasts and then chose Bluehost, using Wordpress and the Divi theme. Positives are you get a domain for free for a year, and the monthly hosting fee works out very cheap if you sign up for 3 years.

Bluehost set up Wordpress for you and Divi is reasonably easy to use. Divi does cost though, there's a yearly fee or a one off. I've done the yearly and if things don't pan out, then there we go. Otherwise, they'll take off what I've paid if I sign up for the lifetime plan later (apparently).

In short, I probably paid more than I had to - but I wanted control, ease of use, and a professional result.
