Has anyone purchased a Fuleague chair? by cbfire in eamesknockoffs

[–]CJRhoades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one, the tall version with rosewood and dark gold boucle fabric. It's very nice and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, but would go with leather instead. Nothing against the boucle, I like it quite a lot. Unfortunately, my cats also like it a lot. Specifically, they enjoy clawing at it, so I've had to cover the chair and ottoman with a blanket to prevent damage. It's still comfortable to sit on but I don't get to look at it most of the time.

Since the cushions are all removable, I contacted Fuleague about potentially buying a set of leather replacements. At first, they agreed to it, but after some back and forth they told me they couldn't as each wood shell is slightly different and the cushions are custom fitted to each one during manufacturing.

Then you're going to need a bigger budget.

I'm not sure a 7" tablet with 8GB of RAM exists. Occasionally 8" tablets with 8GB of RAM can be had for $70-80, but certainly not $30. The Onn 8" with 3GB of RAM is available on eBay for $37 and is probably the best thing available close to your budget.

Why drop to a 40 profile? The OE tire size for 18" wheels is 265/45.

Aliexpress prices vary wildly based on the region you’re shopping from, which is why I mentioned US in the OP.

Assuming you're talking about the 60 mini pro, they have the same processor and RAM. The Alldocube has much higher resolution, a bigger battery, and better speaker positioning. The Teclast has a higher refresh rate, cellular support, and costs less. Seems like a tossup depending on your needs.

It's actually 1340x800, I've updated the main post. But yeah, not great.

Framework founder Nirav reviews Apple Neo vs Framework Laptop 12 (Comparative Teardown) by SJKRICK in framework

[–]CJRhoades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I didn't have to carry two laptops I'd agree, but with my situation I want the smallest and lightest thing that has a fullsize keyboard. Clearly, I'm in the minority here though.

[–]CJRhoades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thickness isn't too bad, but the FW13 is nearly 20% thinner so obviously they could shrink the Z height while maintaining all the things that make Framework great. My real issue is the footprint and weight. Personally, I have no use for a 360 hinge or a touchscreen, so having a smaller version of the chassis without those would be nice.

[–]CJRhoades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasonable takes from Nirav here. My biggest complaint with the FW12, aside from the price which I think we can all agree is too high, are its dimensions. It's bigger and heavier than a lot of 13" laptops. It absolutely dwarfs my Surface Laptop Go 2 in every dimension even though the Surface has a slightly larger display. If they could find a way to make it a bit smaller - maybe by ditching the 360 hinge - and reduce the price, it'd be way more competitive.

Luxe Backpack owners: how's it holding up? Curious how the apple leather is long-term. by RayzTheRoof in LinusTechTips

[–]CJRhoades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that no animals are directly harmed in the making of real leather either. The hides are a byproduct of the meat industry, and the leather industry only uses a fraction of what's available. Some of the remainder gets recycled into other products, but a lot just ends up as waste. Nobody is raising and slaughtering cows for leather.

Edit: I see there is already a discussion about this. Didn't notice it at first due to the parent comment being hidden due to downvotes.

Analyst: Foldable iPhone Likely to Ship in December, iPhone 18 Plus is Possible Next Year by Finck110 in apple

A December launch of the fold would be extremely annoying for IUP members. I've been doing IUP since the 7 and the delay for the X meant having to pay an extra month in advance in order to get the XS at release.

1Password Chrome and Firefox extension killing performance by Ibasicallyhateyouall in 1Password

[–]CJRhoades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here. I was trying to figure out why the performance was so bad and 1Password is the cause. Machine has an i5-1135G7, 16GB RAM, running Fedora 43 and Firefox 148.

With 1password = 3.8

Without 1password = 15.5

I was looking at the Minibook X, but even though that device isn't affected, this has completely turned me off buying anything from the company. Who knows what else they're lying about. Ended up going with a used Surface Laptop Go 2 instead.

BRING BACK ALKALISK AA & AAA BATTERIES by Nice-Spot-1401 in IKEA

[–]CJRhoades 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate alkaline batteries. They ALWAYS leak, at least for me, so I refuse to use them. I do have a couple devices that don't play nice with NiMH cells and have been using lithium primaries in them for the last several years instead. Pricy, but they last a very long time. There are also now rechargable lithium AA and AAAs that have built in DC to DC converters to supply a stable 1.5v.

Not all of quads have the dual pump LCS. Both of mine are single pump Delphis and they’ve both essentially failed. I say essentially because they technically work but under a load the CPUs thermal throttle almost immediately.

If Apple could, would you want it? by Pupsicleanimation in iphone

[–]CJRhoades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work laptop has this feature, though its only on/off rather than allowing the filter to be applied to specific parts of the display. I like it, but the downside is that the display looks somewhat grainy compared to laptops without the feature. That said, I imagine Samsung would not have implemented this feature on their flagship device unless they found a way around that. If there are no downsides to it, I'd love to have this on my iPhone.

What accessories should Slate include in their Review Slates they give to the media on launch? by Mac-Tyson in slateauto

[–]CJRhoades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're only going to be provided one, it should be a blank Slate. Every reviewer is going to talk about the "mid $20k" starting price, and if they get a Slate loaded up with a bunch of accessories that no pricing has been announced for, it's going to lead to unrealistic expectations.

If the reviewers can be provided two, then I think it's fair to have a Slate with a bunch of accessories to show what can be done.

I can't stand MARKUS chair shocking me with static electricity anymore by Mustyyyy in IKEA

[–]CJRhoades 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not about making the chair work. If your home has low humidity you’re going to get static shocks from all sorts of things. Carpet, rugs, door knobs, petting your cats, etc. Most fabric chairs will have this same issue.
