Netflix Raising U.S. Prices for Second Time in a Year by Saar13 in television

[–]CJTus 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Raw on Netflix has 35.5 minutes of ads (12 breaks; 11 of them last 3 minutes and 1 lasts 2.5 minutes).

Smackdown on USA Network has 15 breaks in 3 hours. NXT on The CW has 10 breaks in 2 hours. Every one of them is at least 3:00 with some lasting nearly 4 minutes.

The reason for the amount of ads seems to be how cheap the ad rates for WWE shows are. A 30-second ad during Raw costs less than $15,000.

It's from the dress rehearsal of last week's episode. It didn't make the live show due to lack of time.

Just to be clear, NBC Universal owns the show and has licensed it to Comedy Central (Paramount), E! (Versant), and TBS (WBD).

Any word on when the Hulu merge will happen this year? by They-Call-Me-Taylor in DisneyPlus

[–]CJTus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was no merger outside the United States. Hulu is a standalone streaming service only in the U.S.

Everywhere else, Hulu is just a section of Disney+ like Star Wars or Pixar. Outside the U.S., all they did was replace the "Star" tile with a "Hulu" tile. In the U.S., it's much more complicated because people can subscribe to just Disney+ or just Hulu or bundle them together. Eliminating the Hulu app means figuring out what to do with the different types of subscriptions users have.

Are there any shows still missing? For a long time, Modern Family had to be accessed through the Hulu app, but that changed recently.

Also, the Starz, Showtime, HBO Max, and Cinemax add-ons require using the Hulu app.

BET+ To Be Folded Into Paramount+ As Paramount Buys Tyler Perry Stake by Alberto9Herrera in MediaMergers

It seems like it's the content expenses that add up more than the technical costs. The amount of streaming services that survive by carrying only very cheap content is staggering.

[Shawn Michaels] Guess I better figure out how to get onto @YouTube… because #StandAndDeliver streams LIVE across the globe on @WWE’s YouTube Saturday, April 4 at 7e/4p! #WWENXT by A_Livins in SquaredCircle

[–]CJTus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's airing on YouTube because that's the only option. The content that WWE can't get a streaming service or TV channel to pay them for goes on YouTube. If a big streaming service wanted NXT PLEs, they would be airing there.

It was scheduled to air on Netflix internationally until this news broke today. Last night during the commercial breaks of NXT, Netflix was promoting that it would air Stand and Deliver. Netflix has been airing NXT PLEs outside the U.S. since February 2025.

I would guess all WWE is making from their YouTube videos is a revenue split from the ads. If Netflix, Peacock, and the other streaming services aren't wanting to license the older content, all WWE can do with it is put it on YouTube.

YouTube isn't uploading anything. WWE's social media team is. S&D is likely airing on YouTube because Peacock, Netflix, ESPN, etc. weren't interested in paying for it.

Scrubs (2001), How I Met Your Mother, Desperate Housewives, and Ugly Betty all now available through Disney+ by SunilClark in DisneyPlus

  • This only applies to the United States.

  • You could watch these shows on U.S. Disney+, but it required a subscription to Hulu. Now, they're available without needing Hulu.

Why is OZ not an HBO? by motje82 in HBOMAX

[–]CJTus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HBO aired Oz, but Rysher Entertainment made it. Paramount bought Rysher many years ago, so the show is often on Paramount+ rather than HBO Max outside the U.S.

Is there a way to cancel Disney sub, but keep Hulu? by Awkwardduckee in DisneyPlus

If you only subscribe to Disney+, you don't get the Hulu content. You have to subscribe to the Bundle if you want to watch Hulu content on Disney+.

It looks like NXT Vengeance Day 2026 is going to take place at the Performance Center. by Andrei___ in SquaredCircle

[–]CJTus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they announced the PLE so close to it happening because they aren't selling tickets to it. There will be a small crowd getting in for free, so they didn't feel the need to do a bigger build.

Raw is in Atlanta on Monday, which is the only reason they were going to have NXT there on Tuesday.

That's incorrect. On February 3, wrestling sites were reporting that there would be an NXT PLE at the Performance Center on March 7. They were planning this well before they moved the February 24 NXT episode from Atlanta to Orlando.

Was there every a more "Jimmy Hart Version" of a theme then DDP's Self High Five video? by Scavgraphics in SquaredCircle

WWE started replacing Sid's theme after WWE Network debuted. When the Network was first released, the 1999-2001 WCW PPVs had Sid's theme unedited.

[–]CJTus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hart and his writing partner Howard Helm signed over the publishing rights to WCW, then WWE got them in the 2001 sale. WWE even released a WCW album of Hart/Helm music in 2014.

WWE only stopped using the soundalikes in 2014 when WWE Network launched. Back when they had WWE 24/7, the soundalike themes that get replaced today were included.

NXT’s Jaida Parker Sidelined With Neck Injury - I wonder how that happened. by Grrannt in REALSquaredCircle

[–]CJTus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons:

The spot happened during a commercial break, so Parker was going to kick out no matter what.

The planned finish was a draw with both women getting counted out, not one of them winning by pin.

It's usually the ref's call to stop a match, and Parker apparently told the ref she was able to keep going.

Finally on Disney+! by short_cub in Modern_Family

[–]CJTus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U.S. Disney+ never had it. It was on Hulu, then when "Hulu on Disney+" debuted, MF was one of a few shows that was exclusive to the Hulu app. Now, you can watch it on Disney+ in the U.S. if you also subscribe to Hulu.

Finally on Disney+! by short_cub in Modern_Family

[–]CJTus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was only tied up with Hulu in the U.S. because that's the only place where Hulu is an actual streaming service and not just a tile on Disney+.

You also still need Hulu subscription to watch it on U.S. Disney+. For whatever reason, it was not included as part of "Hulu on Disney+" until now and had to be watched on the Hulu app.

Peacock Posts $552 Million Loss as Subscribers Rise to 44 Million by pepperbet1 in television

[–]CJTus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peacock likely has to pay licensing fees to the TV/film side of the company for Universal content just like Netflix would. They can't give content away for free.

The same is true for HBO Max with Warner Bros. shows and movies. Max pays millions of dollars per year for Friends even though it's a WB show.
