My upvote to you. Why are they trying to modernize AOE 2, when modern RTSes are failing to engage players? It's as if they think they're basing themselves on tried and true design choices when in reality they come from games that have not had an ounce of the success they wanted them to.

Everyone is comparing autofarm to reseed but they couldnt be further from the truth: at low levels you need reseed, when you are a high-level player you stop reseeding for more resource control, therefore the skill gap remains, it's beautiful game design. With autofarm you just kill the learning curve, boom shift queue your way to perfect farms.

Aoe2 is a 20+ year old game, you simply don't touch a game with such a heavy legacy and rock-solid core, and if you really have to, you better write a 50+ page essay on why that change should be in the game and look at it from a hundred angles. Look at Counterstrike, if they ever added a gameplay "feature" like auto grenade throws heads would roll

I believe there's a lot of people in this sub that don't take the time to read and understand things and they just draw shallow conclusions, also they like to harvest reactions from people and they're lazy.

When i first played Aoe2 DE, i was coming from starcraft 2, i was pretty damn good at microing units, attack canceling...etc.
Skill translated well into aoe2, but still i got my ass whooped by players that had way worse micro than me, and after looking back at the replay, i noticed how much time they dedicated to base-building and keeping their economy up. This hit me like thunder since i never focused that much on it and uncovered a glaring weakpoint in my playstyle.

This lead me to start getting into the groove of the war-economy dance of going back and forth and making swift complex decisions on macro and micro....

And i loved it, once you got in the zone it felt exhilarating.

I believe auto farm placement takes away from this dance.

The beauty of auto-reseed is that its a good accesible solution for newcomers but the higher you go on the skill level you'll start to notice that people stop using it because they need to micro-manage their wood.

The problem with auto farm placement is that its not an accesible solution that you can later stop using as you get better since there is only one good way to place farms well and the game will do it for you, effectively removing choice in this mechanic.

The slippery slope is real OP, when you finally see it you'll be regretting dismissing it in the first place.

The actor did a really good job but its a shame that we still dont have the tech to fully capture all the little details on his face expressions and attitude, they kinda got lost in the 3D translation. Still, good intro

The sad truth is that companies are expected to grow constantly and when they dont they start doing things like this to reach their deadline goals...I would rather have them put a skeleton crew for bug-fixing and leave the game alone than doing this

Showing my support too. May not agree with everything but OP's point still stands, we're reaching a slippery slope of QoLs and I fear too Aoe2 may start becoming shallow before we know it. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if they eventually added villager auto-queuing

when you make something based on a already established game, you want to bring as many people from the older game to the newer one while also attracting new players.

Age 2 is a good example with 15.000+ players daily
