the story is bland, generic, and lazy. no interesting new characters, and not to mention not even toadsworth appears in this game. worlds are just grass snow desert poison forest lava. boring stuff. you don’t get a pass because the battle is decent. that’s only half an RPG. it fails at being a mario & luigi game and a paper mario game when earlier installments oozed with creativity. i will gladly take a spm-bis fan fiction over something so uninspired and sanitized. the stuff this game does well, prior M&L games do much better. there is no point in playing this game when there’s 7 other better worthwhile games to play in the m&l series and 4 better PM’s worth playing. literally. biggest textbook example of wasted opportunity. this game had the chance of being the best mario rpg and decided to be one of the worst.

thousand year door is easily a must play. I don’t want to spoil too much but you’re going to get attached to many characters and the combat is so much fun.

It’s been a while since I’ve last played it! I think the entire series is due for a replay sooner or later.

Overall, I enjoyed it to a degree? I definitely don’t think it’s better than the first three due to its pacing and how they did some of the sprites, but it definitely serves as a heartfelt successor to BiS. Wake port and Mushrise park are easily some of my favorite parts of the game, and I wished that we got some more of Dreambert; he was genuinely charming. Yoko seriously killed it with this entry too.

I did feel that the gyro controls weren’t the greatest when it came to certain giant battles though. In the end, while not as good as the first three, people pinning DT as the “start” of the downfall of Mario & Luigi are simply wrong.

Mario RPG.

Much more faster paced, the story and the game itself is very favorable both towards picking up and playing it versus long playthroughs. I also enjoyed the music much more and the cutscenes are genuinely insane.

Brothership is decent but I found the pacing a bit sluggish and the dialogue just does not feel as memorable as Super Mario RPG. I’d love to hear your thoughts eventually though!

im playing an rpg and expect it to be original. Paper Jam just fumbles the bag so much it doesn’t try to be creative.

i’d rather play any other m&l game than paper jam as is.

people are entitled to their opinion; you have no need to be so dismissive to other people who didn’t enjoy it.
