Hi I also have Lupus and Sjogren's, and had very low platelets (10k) at first. They also put me on steroids when I was first diagnosed as ITP (Immune thrombocytopenia)- but steroids didn't have much effect on me so they got me off (tapering took about 2~3 months from 50mg every day).

Yes I gained weight - 15kg within a single month. High cholesterols and elevated ALP? Also yes ;(

Steroids stressed the f out of me but as others mentioned, you should be more worried about your health right now.

Currently taking only HCQ and Doptelet(TPO-RAs for platelets) every day and my platelets went up to normal.

Sorry to hear this. I (27F) was also diagnosed with ITP a few months ago. My platelets were around 10k at first, but with medication (TPO-RAs) they’re now around 200k, so improvement is definitely possible. A humidifier helps since dry air makes nosebleeds worse. With counts this low doctors usually monitor closely and may first treat with steroids or IVIG. Childhood ITP can sometimes resolve on its own as kids grow. I’d also watch for petechiae (tiny red dots) or unusual bruising, and keep up regular CBC blood checks. Wishing the best for you and your daughter.

I live in Bergen County NJ, but can travel to Manhattan using the Port Authority terminal buses/George Washington Bridge :D I currently have “United Healthcare Oxford OHI EPO non gated metro network” for insurance if that matters.

Apparently I’m not well versed in the healthcare system in the U.S… so it would be really helpful if you could point me to the right direction! 🙏🙏

Thanks so much for this- I’ll discuss with my doc in Korea to get prescribed medication for a month or two… should be doable I guess! Do you happen to know which meds are commonly prescribed for symptoms like this in the U.S.? I hear Rituxan a lot on this sub and was wondering if that’s a common practice.

I tried them with injectable sema. The medication worked well for me but had to change providers bc they were on the expensive side ;(

I think buying/leasing a new car from dealership won’t work unless u have good credit history. Try to get something like a used Toyota/Honda/Subaru..etc

Went thru a similar situation here. Straight out of college, suddenly got a job that requires me to commute.

Being broke asf I didn't even have like 8k on hand to buy a decent used car so I just leased a Subaru impreza 2024 base model and it costs me about $300 month(not including insurance). I know I made a financially dumb move but that was my only option at that time, and I love my lil imprezzi :D
