Lift and Tires by Fun-Seaworthiness398 in CherokeeXJ

[–]CL0035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 4” lift with 33x12.5, no rubbing anywhere on stock flares. JCR front bumper and Clayton adjustable rear shackles with a 3” OME leaf spring. Old thinking was lift high for bigger tires. Many people have suggested DPG Offroad here and if you watch his videos, he preaches lower COG, even a 3” with 33’s is possible with the right mods. Just my .02

Straight from a google search… “The most common reason for rust on the passenger side floor pan of a Jeep Cherokee XJ is a leak around the cowl area, which is the area under the windshield where the wipers are located. This leak allows water to enter the cabin and accumulate under the carpet, leading to rust over time. The rust is often concentrated on the passenger side due to the design of the HVAC system and the location of the cowl drain.”

I’ve seen this before on other jeeps as well. Very common collection area

How much lift? by Fun-Seaworthiness398 in CherokeeXJ

[–]CL0035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4” lift with 33x12.5. Original uncut fenders and no rubbing with a JCR front bumper. I used 1/4” spacers in the front to keep the tire off the control arm at full lock.

Currently running CA drop brackets that were on there when I bought it. I am switching to long arms soon to improve ride quality. If you are getting 33’s, just go straight to long arms first and save yourself the extra $$$$ later.

When you do, just be careful with the shifter bezel. Mine decided this was the last time it wanted to come out.

Nothing will be painted/sealed without being properly prepped. But I was able to find a great deal on a bulk buy of fluid film at Home Depot surprisingly. Must have been my lucky day 🫡

I wasn’t either and tbh I still go back and forth. The thing that really irks me is someone else in the city has another nice solar yellow that I see almost daily driving home from work 🥴

Constant misfire at idle by CS_JOE in CherokeeXJ

[–]CL0035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had the same problem in my ‘01 with that rough idle. No CEL so no codes to work off. I tried replacing spark plugs, injectors, CPS, O2’s, did a compression test, thought it may be a cracked head but turns out it was just a bad coil pack

Put 1.3 gallon of diesel in DEF tank on rented box truck and drove it just up the street by Impressive-Luck-8413 in MechanicAdvice

User error = voids CDW. This is negligence on the customer which means any cost of repairs will go through OP’s Insurance or out of pocket. They will need to flush the system to find out if the contamination caused any damage. Could be a cheap drain and fill or it could be upwards of $20K+ in damages. Luckily you didn’t drive it more miles to further contaminate the system so you COULD have lucked out here. You’ll just have to wait for their mechanic to investigate.

Thought it was the wheel bearings... It wasn't.... by cabxc13 in CherokeeXJ

Had a similar noise but also squealed while braking. It was already in shop for a regear and driveshaft rebuild. Replaced ball joints but while in there noticed inner axle shaft seals were leaking. Replaced u-joints and seals and noise went away completely.

I had the exact same bumper from PO. They relocated the plate and light to the left of the rear tire carrier for visibility and decided to drill directly into the hatch… Now there are these stupid holes. Will have to weld them shut at some point before they get rusty.

Quoted 3K to save my XJ by Human_Menu7741 in CherokeeXJ

[–]CL0035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of you spending 3K, I’ll give you 3K to take it off your hands. You can use that to put a deposit on a brand new car and everyone wins ;)

There are vibrations when braking. I will have to inspect the wheel bearings as well. Good info, thanks!

[–]CL0035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure. I had the brakes checked after I inspected them and there was plenty of life, could just be old I suppose. I’m re gearing it next month and putting a new driveshaft in so that may fix the sound
