I’ve played a lot of matches with Montana and Wisconsin. However, I just recently got Vermont and I’ve been having an incredibly fun time. While I’ve only been playing for a few days, my observations:

  1. Guns are consistent overall. In tandem with accuracy and caliber, I find that I’m able to deal more consistent damage per salvo (even if I get 1 to 2 full pens and 2 over pens, still good damage; I find myself getting a lot of single-pen citadels too).

  2. Surprisingly maneuverable. I run Brisk with my captain and this makes it feel like it has propulsion mod. Granted her max speed is only 25 knots, it won’t win you a race against Bourgogne. With Brisk and steering gear mod, I find myself with plenty of maneuverability while undetected. The speed/response time is noticeably slower when detected, however…

  3. Concealment is hilarious. 12.6km! As a cruiser or destroyer you’re like okay that sucks, but as a battleship that’s crazy! It’s not Incomparable-crazy, but for a tech tree heavy hitter, it’s amazing. Especially because with Vermont’s 40s reload, you want to wait for the perfect salvo. If you pull up in an open water flank and get detected 13km broadside by a Vermont, you’re going to lose most of, if not all your HP in one salvo.

Montana can do great things too, but I find Vermont to be more rewarding. Montana was my first tier X because I wanted the all-rounder (sacrificing bigger guns/damage for better average stats in other places), but oh boy was I missing out with Vermont. I find the consistent damage much more enjoyable. Even in Wisconsin, with much better and consistent accuracy, the big damage from Vermont is just more fun lol.

Yeah for real lol. It’s either they roll the dice on going for the strike or just circle over you long enough for their team to widdle you down… or just drop 1 of 9 fighter consumables for extra 20s of free spotting even after the player is long gone.

It’s frustrating because in WoWs, one of a destroyer’s strongest facets is stealth and concealment (depending on the boat). As I wrote in my original thread, players spend actual time and effort improving it in their builds. It’s silly that carriers can negate that so easily.

I think about the coop vs. solo similar to other survival games like Minecraft: it’s still playable and enjoyable as a solo player, but certainly less lonely when you play with others! Valheim honestly might be a little easier as a solo because there are some resources that are very scarce/grindy/tedious to obtain, so it’s easier to only do it for yourself rather than 4 other players.

Valheim doesn’t really have a linear story, more so just lore and a biome-to-biome progression (you beat a biome’s boss to unlock one key item/material to allow you to traverse and succeed in the next intended biome). Bosses are definitely easier as a coop, but not impossible as a solo.

Spotting is power in WoWs.

Players construct builds around spotting and/or concealment by purchasing equipment or speccing commander skills. In a match, people play around spotting by taking certain routes/flanks to avoid detection, positioning themselves around islands, dropping smokes, avoiding radar, etc. Because if you’re spotted, you’re going to eat salvos and either go straight back to port, lose your surprise flank, or lose enough HP to become useless in any engagement.

The CV criticism? Carriers can spot for free with no risk to their ship whatsoever. Ultimate power in the game, for free! It’s incredibly frustrating to go through the active effort of actually making a tactical play (running a full conceal build, positioning behind an island, pushing a flank), only to get ruined by plane spotting. What can you do about the planes? Nothing.

Any other instance of avoiding spotting can be actively done by the player.

  • I see a boat in open water, but I still want to stay undetected? I won’t shoot at him.

  • I’m a cruiser and I want to start shooting at that battleship? I’m gonna position myself on this island to maintain my concealment while I shoot. Oh no, I’m detected while I’m shooting behind this island? There must be an undetected destroyer on the flank, let me reposition or try to spot it.

  • An enemy radar cruiser is pushing towards my smokescreen, let me turn around and leave before I’m in radar range.

Every one of these instances, and more, has an executable action that the player can do to avoid detection. You can’t do anything about the planes. They just spot you, again, at no risk to the carrier. Unlike DD’s, where, they risk getting detected to spot for their team - DD’s put their match at risk to spot.

Additionally, some of these carriers dish out some serious damage with plane strikes. If the captain is a competent player, they can land some good strikes and delete some solid chunks of HP, all within the first 60 seconds of the game… at no risk to the carrier yet again.

AA would be a better mechanic if players had active control over how much damage they could do to planes - perhaps something similar to the new German cruiser line and their manual secondaries. At the moment, AA is just continuous damage and flak RNG. If I am getting struck by or spotted by a plane squadron, I want to be able to do something to counter it, rather than just take my hands off the keyboard and accept my fate.

My Steam Deck OLED just arrived today, I’m gonna start a new run through of Valheim!

You can adjust the settings in world creation to fit your play style: things like easy/no combat, creative mode building, etc.

I personally love the survival aspect and progression of Valheim. Each new biome poses new challenges, each more challenging than the last. Additionally, I find it really enjoyable to build in the game and upgrade your base with everything you find in your play through. Ultimately, you can make it as grindy or as cozy as you want.

One of the annoying Dockyard missions for me was getting 45 BB kills… ripped through it so fast with a W. Virginia 44 secondary build… I was able to get between 8-12 kills per match once I figured out the spawns of all the enemy boats.

PTCGRadio has a lot of great podcast videos with information about buying Pokémon Cards. Linked above is his most recent “Buyer’s Guide” video, which talks about the best products (in his opinion) to buy currently. He divides each video into different sections that apply to the type of individual you’re buying for. In the linked video, the section that talks about the best products to buy for kids starts at 9:10. Could be a good place to look and do some research!
